I was doing pretty good with this being the first Christmas without my father until I opened up the Christmas card from my mom and she had signed it "Love Mom and Dad"

Probably the saddest point I've been at since his passing in September.
That Christmas card is bittersweet and I humbly suggest that you consider that card the best ever because it means your dad is actually there for you Christmas today. I will risk going further and recommend you save that card and read it for every Christmas in years to come.

I will turn 74yo on the 28th and would get Christmas birthday presents combined 🙁

My dad once told me in his teasing sardonic style ( I inherited it from him ) : " Son, the best thing you have ever done is to be born before the end of the year so I could get a deduction on my taxes"
Lol, can't tell you how many times I heard the story about getting to claim me for the whole year. Well, it was probably about 50 times I can remember since it was brought up every birthday.

My Birthday is late January. Close enough that I could ask for a better combined Christmas present. Far enough away, that even if I did, I would usually get a little something anyway. My late sister's Birthday is tomorrow. She passed this September a few days before my younger sister's Birthday. This will be the first Christmas without her, followed directly by her Birthday. I'm a bit worried about my older brother. They were close. He went to spend time with her almost everyday over her last three years. I miss her and will feel it, for sure. But it will probably really hit him. I would have picked me as the first to go from our group of four siblings.

Mom in law gave me and everyone a bar of soap. In my head I'm thinking 'WTF, this is second worst gift behind a candle". I hate gifting anyway.
Then I try to smell it and actually mumble "what the hell". My sense of smell is gone. I've had a nasty head-cold (passed from my son) since Monday... So then Xmas morning becomes a fun scramble for masks and antigen tests.
Thankfully the first test was negative for covid

Last night around 8pm the door bell rang. I answered, stepped out on to the front porch and there on the Sidewalk were 30+ Christmas carollers singing Jingle bells. I got the wife and she squealed! I grabbed my acoustic guitar and went outside and joined in. We sang Rudolph, and then Feliz Navidad. They took off down the street and hit up all the houses for several blocks.
Today, I got a pair of Snoopy flannel pajama bottoms.
Happy camper.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.
