Has anyone else seen David Ira Wood's Christmas Carol? I saw it for the first time yesterday at the DPAC. I had no idea it was a musical and it was so funny. Also didn't know it has been going on for 51 yesrs.

A few times over the years. Is David Ira Woods still performing? Thought his son took over the role.

Yes, his son is playing Scrooge now and David is directing it. David did make an appearance, though. I like how they broke the fourth wall sometimes and had jokes that were about current and even local things.

Yeah. They always incorporated current events. One of the reasons to go back again and again.

John Henry Faulk’s “Christmas Story”: John Henry Faulks was born in Austin, Texas in 1913 and he died there in 1990. A storyteller and entertainer, if you know of him today it is probably because of a 1974 recording of his “Christmas Story.” [Link at end of intro] What you might not know is that Faulk was black listed for battling McCarthyism in the 1950s and won one of the first libel suits against that insidious Right-Wing movement. Phil Ochs, the singer-songwriter (also attacked by the Right) wrote “The Ballad of John Henry Faulk” to remember his struggle ( — Lyrics here: The Ballad Of John Henry Faulk ).

Before I ever knew of Faulk’s courage and tenacity I heard and loved his “Christmas Story.” Do yourself a favor and give it a listen and remember this Great American and Warrior for Human and Civil Rights. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
