Minnesota assasination thread

This is so fucking sad. People are dead and it all leads back to the us vs them mentality that trump spews each day.

I know I often fail at staying on track and not letting it get personal. I'll keep working to do better. But it seems that many out there don't see a need to do better, they feel empowered in their hate because of trump. Trump demonstrates daily how not to treat people, how not to run a country, how not to lead.

Now this.
This is where I'm at. I'm so fucking tired of this us vs them shit.

And he didn't fucking tell anyone??

David Carlson lives at an address where the police executed a search warrant for the shooting suspect, Vance Boelter. In an interview at this home, Carlson said he and Boelter had been best friends since fourth grade, and he read a text message that the suspect had sent him early this morning, saying he might be dead soon and apologizing. The message did not describe any details of the attacks that unfolded, Carlson said.

I've been trying to keep up this morning and so far today using the cesspool that is twitter, which has been fun.

Right wing maga warriors immediately pointing out the the vote against immigrant health coverage (which was just one piece in a larger budget deal) and that this guy was appointed by Walz (to a non-partisan board, which he might have been appointed to by the previous governor) and his wife interned for Walz at one point to make sure people know he was a left-wing assassin. But there seems to be a lot of other more substantial evidence that points to a right wing assassin.

So does it matter? No. Who gives a shit. People are dead.

This thread has at least been a little more helpful pointing to some sources and concrete info. But we still don't know all that much. Wouldn't be surprised if this takes a few turns over the next few days.

Meanwhile, things are obviously a little eerie here, with the suspect still at large, and probably still pretending to be a cop.

People are still out though, including our local city councilman, a Democrat, at an art festival I walked through this morning. There were still a few people out at No Kings type protests, but I haven't seen what's going on at the larger ones that were planned, like at the Capital. Local government/police basically told everyone to avoid them, which is probably smart, at least until this guy is caught.

Never a dull moment in Minneapolis it seems. Honestly, this type of shit has been brewing for at least the last 25 years I've lived here. George Floyd being the peak (so far).

I don't know. I don't see why college would be much different. It might be hard to study because there's so much variation among college teams -- considerably more than NBA teams. It might be the case, for instance, that a teams playing much worse teams regularly come out flat and start playing hard after a tongue lashing from the coach. That wouldn't necessarily translate to, say, ACC games. Well, the old ACC at least.
College players are younger and less experienced in playing in hostile environments. That is not to mention that college environments are often more hostile than pro. Teams get flustered and especially when on the road facing full court pressure. With one or two turnovers the fans get whipped into a frenzy. The home team feeds on that energy and the away team can start to fold under the pressure.

A timeout allows the team to regroup and while the visiting coach calling the timeout can actually increase the fan energy short term, usually by the time the play starts again the fans aren’t quite the same.

Maybe I am biased by being in college during Billy Ball at OU (Billy Tubbs) but I saw this play out over and over.

Pro doesn’t have that because the players have far more experience playing at that level, the fans aren’t the same, etc. I wouldn’t extrapolate a study from the NBA to NCAA.

Good to see you here Jetson.

I’m sure this is an all-consuming story in Minneapolis. The local TV coverage must be nonstop and local/state governments have to be shell shocked. And this domestic terrorist is still out there somewhere.

This ain't "Rocket Surgery" violence begets violence. The "Dear Leader" spews hateful violent rhetoric 24/7 8 days a week. So explain why now?
Is it really "now"? How long ago was it when someone tried to kill Rand Paul at a baseball game? Almost 10 years - 2017.

This (political violence) all started with the rise of social media and seemed to escalate when Trump won in 2016.

Lucky for Rand, Scalise, etc and Trump, Dem psychos are a worse shot than MAGA psychos.

Nothing surprising there.

EDIT: that TDS meme is gold. Downloaded.....

Sounds good but the data doesn’t support timeouts making any difference one way or the other.

It’s probably better to use timeouts to save possessions and stop the clock.

It's amazing how many MAGAs have these bizarre displays of Trump cult worship on their yards and on bumper stickers on the their gargantuan pickup trucks in our supposedly liberal state.
Was in western PA last week and I would see similar type of thing at random neighborhoods. Had to go through numerous neighborhoods and there was always at least 1. Conversely in my southern, red state there is almost none. I could see how it would be more common in blue states than red states. In red states you don’t have to show it.
