Minnesota assasination thread

The husband killed was a Raleigh native. Graduated from UNC and NC State.

I've been trying to keep up this morning and so far today using the cesspool that is twitter, which has been fun.

Right wing maga warriors immediately pointing out the the vote against immigrant health coverage (which was just one piece in a larger budget deal) and that this guy was appointed by Walz (to a non-partisan board, which he might have been appointed to by the previous governor) and his wife interned for Walz at one point to make sure people know he was a left-wing assassin. But there seems to be a lot of other more substantial evidence that points to a right wing assassin.

So does it matter? No. Who gives a shit. People are dead.

This thread has at least been a little more helpful pointing to some sources and concrete info. But we still don't know all that much. Wouldn't be surprised if this takes a few turns over the next few days.

Meanwhile, things are obviously a little eerie here, with the suspect still at large, and probably still pretending to be a cop.

People are still out though, including our local city councilman, a Democrat, at an art festival I walked through this morning. There were still a few people out at No Kings type protests, but I haven't seen what's going on at the larger ones that were planned, like at the Capital. Local government/police basically told everyone to avoid them, which is probably smart, at least until this guy is caught.

Never a dull moment in Minneapolis it seems. Honestly, this type of shit has been brewing for at least the last 25 years I've lived here. George Floyd being the peak (so far).
That's all I'm seeing on social media from Trumpers - that the killer can't possibly be a MAGA or right-winger because of a couple of votes by one legislator and the killer was appointed by Walz (to a nonpartisan board, as you noted). Yet it seems fairly obvious that this guy was a right-winger, that he was an anti-abortion fanatic who had a "hit list" of abortion providers and pro-choice lawmakers in Minnesota and elsewhere that he planned to target. I seriously doubt a "leftist" would be targeting pro-choice politicians and abortion providers - all of whom happen to be Democrats.

The obsessive TDS overwhelms any actual political discussion other than “trump sucks” and it gets a little boring and stale. I guess it’s true that misery loves company because you guys just wallow in your trump hatred and keep repeating the same things.
Sure. lol.

NY Post reported he was a registered Republican, based on that and his hit list I think it's pretty clear what his motivations were. Conservatives are focused on him being appointed by Walz....but fail to mention it was to a non-partisan position and was a reappointment. It's all soo dumb, the reality is our media is radicalizing the mentally vulnerable. I have friends that I don't recognize anymore, I hate it.

I recently met with a friend of mine who is an immigrant from Latin America and is married to an American. She said that as an immigrant she definitely feels that Trump's two election wins have made it easier for his supporters to publicly express their hatred and anger and bigotry towards immigrants, and that Trump generally has left his supporters feeling as if they're now free to express their bigotry and prejudices openly instead of hiding them. She's worried now about leaving the USA to visit her parents (because of what might happen when she tries to return, even though she's here legally and has been married for years) and won't do it until she feels that it's safer to travel, and I told her that I don't blame her.

She said that she could tell that his first election in 2016 really changed the atmosphere in terms of people no longer holding back and being willing to be "loud and proud" in their bigotry and prejudices. I thought it was a great point, and explains one reason for his appeal with his base - thanks to his bullying and crass, in your face public behavior, they now feel emboldened to act like him and be like him. He's definitely greatly lowered the political discourse in this country, and freed bigots of all stripes to act on their worst impulses.

They shape reality to satisfy their lizard brains.

Ramrouser still isn't sure.

  • Target list: Chief Mark Bruley of the police department in Brooklyn Park, Minn., where the Hortmans lived, said the gunman’s vehicle contained a manifesto and a target list. A federal law enforcement official said the list included about 70 potential targets, including politicians, doctors, community and business leaders, and locations for Planned Parenthood and other health care centers. Some were in other states. Authorities have been contacting the 70 to warn them, according to the official.
  • The suspect: Mr. Boelter served at one point on a state board with one of his victims, and a friend said that he was a Christian, opposed abortion and had voted for Mr. Trump. He is listed as the director of security patrols on the website of a Minnesota-based private security group. “We drive the same make and model of vehicles that many police departments use in the U.S.,” the firm’s website says. Investigators have recovered a ballistic vest and mask that the suspect was believed to have used, the law enforcement official said. Read more

Mat Ollig, a nephew of State Senator John A. Hoffman, said the senator’s wife, Yvette, “is awake and alert,” following surgery. Ollig said in a text message on Saturday night that the family was “waiting to hear more information about John.”

I've been watching CNN on and off today. They have two attractive correspondents; one of which lost the last name lottery and one who won the last name lottery.
