Minnesota assasination thread

What the hell is Lee talking about? The guy is clearly a right-wing, anti-abortion, Trump supporting Religious Right wacko and cold-blooded killer. What does Marxism have to do with it? If he's saying that the MN politicians who were shot and killed had it coming (because they're "Marxists") then he's a sick bastard who has no business serving in Congress, although we all know that MAGA Nation will continue to support him and cheer him on. Hell, many of them will love what he said.

From a quick spin through some SEC message boards this morning, the right wing appears to be 100% convinced this guy was a leftist. Just shows how deeply that part of our populace has embraced right wing propaganda.

NYPost and media to the right of the post jumped on that angle almost immediately, framing the alleged assassin as a “Walz appointee” (technically true but misleading as presented) and implying that meant the shooter was a leftists who was angry with one of the targets for voting with Republicans on an immigration bill this past week. U.S. Senator Mike Lee and others like him have committed to pressing the “left wing shooter” story regardless.

the emerging picture is more of a right wing abortion absolutist whose part-time roommate describes the shooter as anti-abortion and pro-Trump but not noticeably extreme in his political views. And the guy was apparently having financial difficulties (trying to start his own security company, including apparently greatly exaggerating his qualifications, and trying to start a dog breeding venture) after returning from his most recent trip to Africa, while also reportedly working for some sort of eye donation business. But time will tell. The manifesto likely gives law enforcement a more robust understanding of what he claims his extremist obsession is.

Middle age men with disappointing professional success seem easy pickings for radicalization. They can’t get fulfillment from work so they go the religious extremist route. Same thing with the New Orleans truck attacker.

There’s an element of Satanic panic to much of it as well. It could just be faulty memory, but all of the talk of political opponents being demonic feels like a recent change. I don’t remember people talking about “the Enemy” like devil was omnipresent either, but again that could just be memory failure or a change in social media.

I wonder how many Dems stopped clapping long enough to call Trump after his assassination attempt.
The elected Dem response to the Trump assassination attempts were roundly and consistently gratitude that the attempts failed/were thwarted, condolences to those harmed, and condemnation for those who committed the acts.

Or the opposite of the response from a significant number of elected Pubs, including the giant toddler in the WH.

Still more projection

I’m guessing it’s that before access to widespread social media, you weren’t plugged into the right groups to hear it.

I remember such comments as far back as the early Clinton WH. However, social media has certainly amplified those voices in sad and dangerous ways.

Dems just need to come up with a story and a narrative that will give meaning and purpose to the lives of people like this. Bring em back into the fold...
