One of the reasons I like the Cubs is because when I was a kid growing up in North Carolina we had WGN back when they showed a ton of Cubs games and they played a ton of day games - plus that and Harry Carey was awesome
Easy to be a Cubs fan… unless you’re a Cardinals fan…. Which I’m not!

Loads of facial hair in MLB.
Cool.
Wondering how the umps feel about Big Brother looking over their shoulders.
👀

CB Bucknor out here really exploring the space, finding amazing new ways to be awful at his job

I don’t really care how the umps feel. If I were commissioner I would have ABS call all balls and strikes and the home plate umpire would function more like the other base umpires. Why not use available technology to make the correct call on every pitch?

I go to a lot of minor league games and watched all the experimentation with ABS under a variety of scenarios, to settle challenges, to call all pitches, etc. and the system works great. Some folks are worried about challenges slowing down the game. Fine, then use ABS on every pitch and do away with those challenges. Pitchers hate my idea because they depend on fooling the umpire as well as the batter. They depend on those expanded strike zones from the umpires and catchers framing their pitches, ABS eliminates all that subjectivity.

I figure it will eventually come to that. I know major tennis tournaments like Wimbledon have gone with AI and not umpires.

Even some managers and coaches are going with the bearded look.
Wonder if the Yankees will ever allow it…

Sunday night Game of The Week on NBC about to start between Guardians and Braves. They just did an old NBC baseball nostalgia and the played the GOTW theme song. Takes me back to Saturday afternoons as a kid with Vin Scully and Joe Garagiola.

The Yankees and Mets are on 5 game losing streaks and each got swept one of the "poor" MLB teams this weekend (Rays & A's).
