As much as I dislike the Mets, I despise the Phillies even more.
For me, it's not the team that I dislike, it's the nasty hometown, in person Philly fans that are so despicable. That fanbase will turn on their own in a heartbeat if they don't win.As much as I dislike the Mets, I despise the Phillies even more.
The large numbers of injuries to LA's starting pitching corps have hurt the team in a big way. Buehler is prolly the team's best 3rd option and he's been consistent when needed .I understand baseball pretty well but perhaps not to the point of an expert level when looking at statistics. My point being, I looked at the Dodgers starting pitchers stats prior to this game and he seems to be terrible. I can't think he was their best option.
It’s changed a ton though, in terms of the demonstrative stuff. Bat flips etc would have earned head shots back in the day. And when pitchers batted etc. Most baseball players are pretty cocky. It come with the territory.
Bat flips are good for the game. Does anyone complain when Curry does his night-night? In the NFL, players have choreographed celebrations in the end zone and guys who hit HRs can't flex a little? It’s changed a ton though, in terms of the demonstrative stuff. ETA: last night Jesse Winker for the Mets stood in the box watching his moon shot about until it landed. It was pretty obnoxious and made me feel old and cranky.
So your point is baseball is boring? Never heard that one before.Bat flips are good for the game. Does anyone complain when Curry does his night-night? In the NFL, players have choreographed celebrations in the end zone and guys who hit HRs can't flex a little?
The problem for baseball is that its best plays are the least exciting. Strikeouts are . . . eh. Every now and then, a pitcher will K someone with a truly special pitch but not often and anyway, the difference between a good slider and an amazing one is like 2 inches of movement. And HRs are dime a dozen. Even the ones that are hit a mile are only special in the outcome. The swing is the same, the pitch is the same, the resulting flyball is the same, etc.
The only baseball equivalent to the monster jam or a long TD run are defensive plays, which are increasingly rare and a lot of the time, the "highlights" are recoveries from bad jumps. I think baseball would become more exciting if it divested the HR. Make HR Derby its own sport. Then move the baseball fences back 30 feet and play small ball. SBs, triples, OFers making plays -- those are all more exciting than long fly balls that clear a fence.
Not exactly. It's that it has de-emphasized the parts of the game that are the best. The 1980s (especially the NL) were more exciting because there was more going on than swing and either miss or kill it.So your point is baseball is boring? Never heard that one before.
