We saw it last night, also. It was pretty long but definitely worth seeing.

The way the story was told, as it relates to past and current events, was a nice touch.

It was very true to the novel (including that story-telling structure).

My husband and I both loved the novel, so we were predisposed to like it, but still worth it.

That said, when you don’t go often the sticker shock is something. Two rpx seats at early (11:40 am) matinee , one bottle of water and one small buttered popcorn just over $55!!!!

Ok yeah, I thought it sounded like a “bargain.” About $20-25 has become the range around town for a standard new release in regular digital format. You can do better than that with matinee or other deals.

But I just checked Project Hail Mary in IMAX 70mm, it’s a whopping $33.50 a pop. All fees included, but still. By the time you buy that small popcorn and water, you’re at $80.

WTF.

I’ve worked in two different movie theaters in my life, one during the summer of 1993 and the other during the summer of 1995. Both in Charlotte. I remember during the summer of 1993 the theater I worked at raised ticket priced to IIRC $5.50 (would be equal to about $12.50 today). At every showing after that, you could count on multiple people complaining about the “high” ticket prices and threatening not come out to the movies anymore.

I remember during that summer I served concessions to Dell and Sonya Curry who came to see some movie with another couple. They were talking about their little kids. I didn’t think much about that conversation a the time, but it’s funny to think that one of those little kids would go on to become one of the greatest basketball players of all-time.

Yeah my son and I saw Kiki’s Delivery Service last week in IMAX on the UWS and with fees it was just under $26 a ticket.
