Wasn’t sure where to put this… though I’d start a generic N.C. thread. Found out today that the gen assembly passed a bill stipulating that an “American history” course is now required for all students graduating with a bachelors degree from a North Carolina public university, along with required readings in the course. (See photo). Did y’all know about this?

That’s sort of weirdly specific in terms of exam and grading requirements.

I assume they have some real insights on how Women's Literature courses should be structured and graded

Ugh. Reading the Constitution and the declaration of Independence? Horrible.

At least the other ones are better reeds but not a huge fan of the legislature dictating educational requirements to that level.

To be clear, I don’t have a problem with this being taught, I just thought it was odd that it became a requirement at the college level.
I don't recall the Legislature ever mandating a course and spelling it out-including the grading system
It is just freaking weird

But they dropped the requirement of 2 semesters of a foreign language in high school to be admitted to a UNC school. Talking like them foreigners is un-American!
