Nancy Mace

Interesting. I was sort of surprised seeing naivete from you, so it's not surprising that you had more to the story.
That sounds like a compliment. Thanks! I also know the neighbor well enough to sort of gauge where he’s coming from.

I understand why people love to watch dysfunctional/diabolical characters on Survivor or Real Housewives of Wherever, but the notion that they would vote for them as leaders amazes me. Imagine watching Donald Trump on The Apprentice and thinking, "Yeah, that's what we need in the White House."
Totally. That’s always why it was hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that The Apprentice helped Trump get elected. I admittedly eat watched some of it and he came across as a total buffoon. Friends and I would make fun of the Donald Trump we saw on the show. The unintentional comedy is what made us watch. He was an unlikable version of Michael Scott (from The Office) with less personality.

There he had a keeper , editors and the ability to reshoot.

Yet he still came across as a fool.
Somehow I missed seeing a single minute of it. From the little I heard, I got the impression, that as well as making him a household name, to the less discerning members of the audience, a powerful man with strong opinions willing to act on them ,disregarding convention and political correctness. It escaped their attention that this was a parody.

Other than maybe the first few episodes of 'Jersey Shore', I have not intentionally watched a minute of reality TV, and precious few minutes unintentionally as I can't stand to be in the same room while its on. I get my fill of observing reality and the buffoons that inhabit it at work, shopping, socializing, etc. Never understood why someone would want more of that shit on TV when there are actually compelling, well-crafted forms of entertainment readily available.

Never saw a second of the apprentice, and was probably only vaguely aware it existed prior to 2016.

Also should be noted that while I profoundly disagree with her interpretation of what constitutes "protecting women" in many cases, I do think she is genuine about that aspect of her personality and politics. The fact that she continues to genuinely build and advocate for a political brand centered on promoting and protecting women within a larger movement that is so clearly hostile to women in general, and in particular women in positions of power, is somewhat astounding.

Are you standing by this statement after her disgraceful performance today re: Epstein?

Also, exactly what has she done to promote or protect women? I mean, Trump also said he wants to protect women.

Article today in Politico about her.

She's been through a lot, apparently. Molested at 14, raped at 16, raped again by an unknown assailant but recorded on her fiance's cellphone. She got 1300 death threats last year. Let's not forget when her house was vandalized by dyslexics. Apparently when she tried to report the rape, she was repeatedly told she would be arrested if she spoke up.

I really don't want to be insensitive, but should I be skeptical about these stories? She seems desperate for attention.
Nancy Mace was raped? Funny, she never mentions it.

It makes people feel normal in some way.

If they can watch a really fucked up family on TV and think, "We're not as bad as them", then that helps some people.
And if the guy who is elected to be the President of the United States is one of the biggest pieces of shit on the world, we can feel much better about ourselves.

I heard that he was one of them a lot during the campaigns. Makes sense they don't like those educated liberals.
