Ban laptops and tablets? Are they not going to use them for education anymore?

I'm good with that but it seems a big shift. Schools will have to buy all books again
Jesus Effing Christ. Do these clowns have any idea of how many schools use chromebooks in classrooms now? It would be extremely difficult, to put it mildly, to revert back to using textbooks, and of course there's no way that they'll pay for schools to get new textbooks anyway. It's completely asinine and would likely cause chaos in teaching. We're living in 2025, not 1985 or 1965. Unless you're a GOP member of our state legislature, I suppose.

Guess they are just talking about the phones and any personal devices the students might bring. I am all for phones not being used during class. I guess I don't understand why the teachers can't just tell the kids phones aren't allowed out in class, and if they break the rule there will be consequences just like any other rule that's broken.

I know being on the phone all the time is a big problem. I actually think it's just a way for people to escape the real world and the reality that's around them, and I really can't blame kids for not wanting to deal with the real world these days.

Hopefully this is it

Some schools that don't have universal chromebooks allow students to use cellphones for classwork, such as math classes. Not everybody has a personal laptop or chromebook, and not all school districts have chromebooks for every student. No doubt cellphone usage is a problem, but to tell teachers that kids simply can't use them at all is likely to cause problems. And where in the article does it mention just personal laptops? The wording seems pretty vague to me, and is likely to cause confusion unless it is clarified.

A NC Pube Bill causing confusion??

Former U.S. Rep. Wiley Nickel, a Democrat from Wake County, wants to challenge U.S. Sen. Thom Tillis, R-NC, in the 2026 midterms in a race Nickel hopes will be a referendum on Tillis' support for President Donald Trump's policies.
Obvious question is -Roy Cooper
Maybe technically the wrong thread-sorry

If Cooper wants the Democratic nomination he'll get it, as he was a popular governor and will likely have far greater name recognition than any other Democrat running in the primaries. Whether he wants it or not is the real question - I hope someone is able to talk him into it, because Democrats really need to pick up that seat to have any hope of retaking the Senate in 2026.

Yea
Nickels announcement made me wonder about Roys desires. No way Roy loses the nomination

Governor and Legislative leadership had a deal to make Cash Bail a bit more strict in serious cases-and pay more attention to MH issues in those arrested. This after the killing in Carlotte on the Tram thingy by a guy released several times assaultive crimes
When the vote came up guess what ShitBurger did

The bill had previously enjoyed bipartisan support — until Senate leader Phil Berger made a surprise, last-minute amendment to the bill to restart executions of prisoners.
The death penalty has been paused in North Carolina since 2006 but Berger’s proposal aims to bring it back, perhaps by using firing squads instead of lethal injections, which are subject to law lawsuits and other holdups.

The bill is bad (regardless of the death penalty issue) and may be unconstitutional. And even if it were in place at the time DeCarlos Brown (the light rail killer) was arrested in January for misusing 911, and followed to a T, he still would have been out. It would have changed nothing in that case. That’s one reason it’s so stupid.

His mother has said he was diagnosed with schizophrenia following his release from prison for an armed robbery conviction. She said the courts failed by allowing her son to be out in the community despite knowing about his previous criminal history and mental health issues.

What To Know

Brown has past convictions for armed robbery, felony larceny, breaking and entering, and shoplifting, WBTV reported.

I am aware of his history. He was given the maximum sentence that could legally be imposed for his offense when he was convicted of robbery with a dangerous weapon (his last conviction). He served his sentence and had been out for five years. The problem is— and maybe what his mother is referencing— there is very little to help people with mental illness while in prison, or to help them when they are released from prison. There was nothing different the courts could have done.

If Phil Berger is behind it I wonder if there will be a provision to just execute teachers that don't have good EOC or EOG test scores. You know he'd love to.
