Attempting to unilaterally change the rules 2 months before an election and the Pubs have the audacity to talk about stolen elections and 'irregularitied'
Projection. The answer is always projection with these people. They claim that Democrats might try to steal the election, so they'll just go ahead and actually put plans in place to do it.

Could it? Yes, but they tried and failed once already. NYT article has a lot of good background on the guy who is the linchpin if he changes his mind.

Yes but McDonnell cold succumb to pressue (e.g. threats from Trump and his supporters against his family, blackmail, Kompromat from the FSB, etc.) Not sure how Maine let this slip by. MSNBC was talking about this recently.

Not sure how Maine let this slip by?

Remember, Maine re-elected Susan “I’m concerned” Collins after she helped Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination move through the Senate.

Maine has this odd perception of itself. Maine thinks its means of allocating electoral votes is the right way to do it. If the EV vote is 269-269 and the election goes to the US House and Trump wins, Maine will still think it’s the right thing to do.

State Sen. Mike McDonnell, a former Democrat who joined the GOP earlier this year, said in a statement Monday that he would not vote to change the law in Nebraska before the November election.

“After deep consideration, it is clear to me that right now, 43 days from Election Day, is not the moment to make this change,” McDonnell said.

Honestly, Maine and Nebraska should both probably change back to winner takes all. I see the arguments for it, especially small states, but if you extend the argument to all states, things get messy. What if NC changed our electoral vote to this method? It would mean our electoral votes, save the 2 U.S. Senate derived votes, would be subject to the gerrymandering of the Republican supermajority in Raleigh.

If I am Biden I am asking Garland and Wray to look into offering Federal Marshalls/FBI protection for McDonnell and his family. This is a monumental show of patriotism and courage with a significant risk of retaliation.

If there is another debate, I would love to see Trump asked if what he wanted done in Nebraska, should also apply in Maine.

In The NY Times article on this, they mention that McDonnell is hoping to run for mayor of Omaha next. I bet he’d have no chance winning the “blue dot” if he screwed them out of their electoral vote.

Glad to hear that he’s standing firm no matter the motivation.
