Netanyahu has been aching to stop U.S. engagement with Iran … sounds like he has decided this is his chance.

The effing Houthis forced an American carrier to take evasive actions.

The days of the carrier task force are numbered.

Submarines launching drones and cruise missiles will be naval warfare soon.
Well, it probably helped that they knew exactly where all American forces were. You can fight from desert caves if you can track the enemy forces, and you don't need sophisticated radar for that when you have a worm on the Secretary of Defense's phone and office computers.

“President Trump said Tuesday that the U.S. had reached a truce with the Houthis in Yemen and would suspend its airstrikes there, claiming that the militants would no longer target ships navigating Middle Eastern waters.

“I will accept their word, and we are going to stop the bombing of the Houthis, effective immediately,” Trump said in the Oval Office during a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Marco Rubio, who is both secretary of state and interim national security adviser, said the goal of the weekslong strikes on Houthi targets was to get the group to stop their assaults on regional shipping. “If it’s going to stop, then we can stop,” Rubio said.

The U.S. has struck more than 1,000 targets throughout “Operation Rough Rider,” which has lasted more than 50 days.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the Houthi Political Bureau didn’t mention a cease-fire with the U.S. and reiterated that its military moves would continue until the war in Gaza is halted. …”

Trump is so easily manipulated. He's more credulous than any world leader I've ever seen.

The Houthis have been fighting for at least 15 years. They didn't just get tired of fighting, lol.

“… “It isn’t even a fair fight, and never will be. They will be completely annihilated,” Trump declared on social media in the first week of the operation.

Yet it wasn’t until Monday, after weeks of U.S. bombardment, that the Houthi militants finally acceded to Trump’s demands to halt their missile and drone attacks on shipping.

Even then, it was less than clear whether the Houthis had entirely “capitulated,” as Trump claimed, or had agreed to something short of that.

After Trump’s Oval Office announcement of a truce in which the two sides agreed not to target each other, the Houthis immediately vowed to continue attacks against Israel. International shipping would be safeguarded, according to a statement by Oman, which mediated the agreement that left ambiguous whether a Houthi pledge to halt attacks applied only to American vessels. …”

I shudder to think how the Taliban would have played us for fools if Trump had been responsible for negotiating an end to that conflict.

Oh, wait.

Any other POTUS would be pilloried for claiming to make a deal based on “honoring their word” in such circumstances, but fine. No one was paying much attention anyway and we have been setting money on fire …

Cool that he described the terrorists as having a "lot of bravery."

How the Houthis Rattled the U.S. Navy—and Transformed Maritime War

Persistent bombardment in confined waters pushed sailors to the edge in a costly battle that ended in stalemate

“… Some 30 vessels participated in combat operations in the Red Sea from late 2023 through this year, around 10% of the Navy’s total commissioned fleet. In that time, the U.S. rained down at least $1.5 billion worth of munitions on the Houthis, a U.S. official said.

The Navy was able to destroy much of the Houthis’ arsenal—but it has yet to achieve the strategic goal of restoring shipping through the Red Sea, and the Houthis continue to regularly fire missiles at Israel.

Military and congressional leaders who have begun scrutinizing the campaign for lessons worry about the strain of such grueling deployments on overall force readiness. The Pentagon is also investigating the lost planes and a separate at-sea collision—incidents that all involved the Truman strike group—with results expected in the coming months.…”
