“… U.S. Central Command forces launched the first strikes of 2025 against the Houthis on Wednesday.

The forces, which were not identified, struck two Houthi underground Advanced Conventional Weapon storage facilities in Yemen, according to the Wednesday news release.

The strikes come eight days into the new year and are the first strikes since Dec. 31.

They also come two days after Houthi spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Sare’e posted on X that the Houthis attacked USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75), preventing the carrier and its aircraft from attacking Yemen on Jan. 6. Central Command did not acknowledge the Houthi claims, although it did post pictures of flight operations aboard Truman on Jan. 7. Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh told reporters Wednesday that the Houthis did not strike Truman. …”

“… Private American security contractors provided advice to the Yemeni factions on a potential ground operation, people involved in the planning said. The United Arab Emirates, which supports these factions, raised the plan with American officials in recent weeks, the U.S. and Yemeni officials said.

… The U.S. is open to supporting a ground operation by local forces, the U.S. officials said, while noting that a decision on whether to back the effort hasn’t been made yet. The U.S. isn’t leading the talks for a ground operation, the officials added. The discussion involves empowering the local factions allied with the internationally recognized government in Yemen to take charge of the country’s security, they said.

“Ultimately, security in the Red Sea is the responsibility of our partners in the region, and we’re working closely with them to ensure shipping in those waterways remains safe and open far into the future,” National Security Council spokesman Brian Hughes told The Wall Street Journal last week. …”

Under the plan being discussed, the local factions based in the country’s south would deploy their forces up the Houthi-controlled western Yemeni coast and try to seize the Red Sea port of Hodeidah, Yemeni officials said.

If successful, the ground operation would push the Houthis back from large parts of the coast from where the U.S.-designated terrorist group has launched attacks on ships transiting nearby waters. Capturing Hodeidah would be a major blow to the Houthis, depriving them of an economic lifeline while also cutting off their main route to receive arms from Iran.

Tehran publicly denies that it supplies the Houthis with weapons, but United Nations inspectors have regularly traced seized weapons shipments back to Iran. …”

US airstrikes on Houthi oil port in Yemen reportedly kill dozens

Death toll, if confirmed, would make strikes on Ras Isa port one of the deadliest in month-long US campaign

“… The strikes hit the Ras Isa oil port and were intended to deprive the rebels of “illegal revenue that has funded Houthi efforts to terrorize the entire region for over 10 years”, the US military’s Central Command said.

“This strike was not intended to harm the people of Yemen, who rightly want to throw off the yoke of Houthi subjugation and live peacefully,” it added. It did not acknowledge any casualties.

…The Houthis’ al-Masirah satellite news channel aired graphic footage of the aftermath of the attack, showing corpses strewn across the site. It claimed paramedic and civilians workers at the port had been killed in the attack, which sparked a massive explosion and fires. …”

“… The Houthis targeted more than 100 merchant vessels with missiles and drones, sinking two of them and killing four sailors from November 2023 until January of this year. They also launched attacks targeting American warships without success.

The US campaign shows no signs of stopping, as the Trump administration has also linked its airstrikes on the Houthis to an effort to pressure Iran over its rapidly advancing nuclear program.“

Allegedly… but dispiriting IF the Trump/Hedgeseth DoD is adopting these methods.

“…
The letter cites the War Powers Resolution, invoking it as a basis for informing Congress, and indicates that President Trump directed this action “pursuant to my constitutional authority as Commander in Chief and Chief Executive to conduct United States foreign relations.”

The War Powers Resolution stipulates that the president must notify Congress within 48 hours of military action undertaken without congressional authorization. However, the strikes the president alludes to in the letter began on March 15. …”

The U.S. makes this mistake again and again, thinking we can bomb our way to a solution for much of anything without committing boots on the ground to do the real clean-up.

Saudi Arabia, Israel, the U.S., likely UAE, and possibly others have been bombing the shit out of the Houthis for 10-20 years.

The Houthis are still there.
