Article is from 2012 -- wonder what a 2025 version of this piece might say?

Go back farther and you would find folks drinking a strange brew called Schlitz all over the place. I did drink a good deal of Milwaukee's Beast back in those days as well as some good amount of Iron City. Red, White, and Blue was always the cheapest thing going.
I'm having flashbacks of 90s fraternity parties... The Beast (Milwaukee's Best), Natty Light, Shlitz Ice... and OE/ Colt 45 when we were looking to get drunk fast.

bubs (RIP in 2017) sold 5 cent schlitz all day every day when i was in school.

ahhhh, cheap beer. i very much do and don't miss it.

I grabbed a Mickey's malt liquor several months ago on a whim, just to remind me of high school. Surprisingly, it wasn't bad at all. Actually pretty good, and not that strong, 5.6%. Just a nice flavor profile...

Some people are literally allergic to beer My sister found this out in her 50s
It’s the gluten in the beer. I got terrible headaches starting in my late 40’s after just a couple of beers. Now totally gluten free and feel much better. I miss the taste of beer but not too much.

I have the same issue, but usually it is only triggered by IPA's. If I stick to lagers and pilsners, it's not as much of an issue. One IPA and I'm completely congested and have a sinus headache. Stinks because I really like a good IPA, but no more.
Maybe it's the Inner Planner Alergies?

- All the ice beers of the 90s -- Bud Ice, Busch Ice, Natty Ice, etc
- Red Dog
- Is Newcastle still around? Probably, but it was hugely popular 25 years ago
- Red label Miller

For years NC only permitted 3.2 Beer.
I recall those days. “You making a run to Tennessee? Bring me back a case of a Stroh’s!” And of course Coors was foreign to us North Carolinians and we thought it was the nectar of the Gods.
Both had supposedly higher alcohol content than what we could get at our local package store. Highly sought after.

When living in Europe in the 80’s. I learned a lot about beer. All kinds of things from the Brits, the Germans, the Dutchies…
Ales, Bitters, Lagers, Pilsners, Stouts, hefe Weißbier, Wit bier, etc.
The main thing I learned is that American beer like Budweiser, etc. is/was total shite. Horse piss at best.

From big fraternity court I would roll over to the Happy Store to find the cheapest six pack on sale, usually for $1.99. Winners were usually Schaefer Light or Black Label Light. No one would steal my beer.

Perhaps from Czechia… the original Budweiser.
I noticed Budweiser too when I was over there… Come to find out it was from Czechoslovakia

Nothing like an Icehouse headache. I used to love Newcastle, but I ran into some skunky bottles one too many times.

A buddy of mine's mom used to drive to Virginia and bring back cases of Coors. It wasn't available in NC and I'm pretty sure it was 5% alcohol...
