So, I think tomorrow is the big announcement. Thoughts on who will be awarded this year’s prize? I’ve got to think (and hope) Trump has no chance.

The favorite on Polymarket is Sudan's Emergency Response Rooms (?) at 36%.
Yulia Navalnaya is second with 10%. That's Alex Novelty's widow (had to look that up).
Trump has a 5% chance.

It’s a joke that he’s listed at all. Leaders that send armed troops to invade their own country probably don’t fare too well in Nobel Peace Prize voting.

Right-Wing Twitter says his chances have doubled over the last 24 hours since he has brought peace to Gaza.
Throwing on my Conspiracy Theory hat: Trump and Bidi had a temporary “peace plan” worked out and ready to announce a day before they voted for the Nobel Peace Prize in exchange for Trump’s guarantee that he’d continue to provide support for Bidi’s genocide/ethnic cleansing campaign should something unexpected (wink wink) happen to reignite the hostilities in say, oh, I don’t know, a week or so?

You'd be surprised. Gorbachev used troops to suppress domestic unrest. Sadat used troops to suppress bread riots. Israel's two winners were sending troops to suppress unrest in Gaza and the West Bank before and after they won. De Klerk was using the military to enforce apartheid. Roosevelt sent troops to keep the peace in a coal strike. Its not really uncommon.

With that said, Trump isn't winning this year. He might win next year if the peace holds which means he is unlikely to win next year.

This is insane. Credit where credit is due. Getting the Israelis and the Hamas to agree in principle here is a HUGE step, but it's wildly premature to talk of "peace".

Trumps contribution is important in a "the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step" kind of way, no doubt about it. But we've just stepped out the door and have 999 miles and 1759 yards to go to get to our destination (i.e. "peace").

If history is any guide, this "agreement in principle" has every chance of working out no better than BB agreeing in principle to become the UNC football coach (i.e. a flaming dumpster fire).

But one step at a time. we have taken the first step, and that's big, but let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

Ditto for people who rename their Department of Defense the “Department of War,” have there Defense Secretary … I mean War Secretary… assemble all the military’s generals and encourage them to commit war crimes, and order the bombing if civilian boats that are likely not even heading to the US.

That would be on brand for both.
