Morganton NC is high noon on the courthouse square

I attended the last one, took my guitar and sang Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger and Bob Dylan stuff…
Can’t go to the one on Saturday, I have a paid gig out of town which also starts at noon at a winery up in the High Country. I’ll miss it. But I still plan on singing some Bob Dylan and Woody… and a new anti-government protest song called “Heavy Foot”. Cool tune.

I don’t think we should allow maga to define being anti-fascist as a bad thing. I’m proudly anti-fascist. Personally I’m going to start claiming to be antifa.
100%.

The Democrats should start an ad campaign featuring themselves and other prominent/common people looking into the camera and declaring, “I’m Antifa.” At the end of the commercial/ad, ask the GOP “Why aren’t you?”

We need a nationwide PSA campaign to teach people what “begs the question” means.
Or I just need to get over people using it incorrectly.
That one has been a lost cause since long ago, unfortunately.

But I’d expect someone like Duffy (who isn’t anywhere near as smart as he thinks he is) to use it in that way.

To our astonishment, it turns out that there is a Lexington (NC)(!) event on Saturday and Mrs. Korg & I will be attending. We thought for sure we'd have to go into W-S. Davidson county is about as deep red as it gets.

Yeah, seriously. These are people who struggle with basic arithmetic, and who can't remember who was president in 2020 or on J6. Of course they aren't going to get philosophical terminology correct.

What response do you think you'd get from Duffy if you asked him to define philosophy? He would look at you with a blank stare.

The missus and I will be attending the Hillsborough No Kings Day Saturday.

We are planning to carry signs, and if anyone has any ideas what to put on ours let me know :)
I'm a fan of the classics... I'm going with "At Long Last Have You No Decency?".

A little wordy, but gets to the heart of my desired outcome (i.e. the fever breaks as it did with McCarthyism).

Ironically, if you asked him why he thinks the protesters are getting paid, there is a good chance his answer would be a proper example of begging the question.

No, that would backfire. There are actual Antifa clowns who the mainstream Democrats do not need to be associated with. Black bloc types.

I agree 1000% and wish our young students would be taught about McCarthyism and shown video of the HUAC hearings demonstrating its nexus to where we find ourselves today.

Unfortunately, many younger folks know little or nothing about that period in our history and would be perplexed to see that on my sign.

How about ANY period in our history? One recent high school grad told me that Hamilton was the first president of the United States.

fuck that, no one knows who the hell any of those people are.

EVERYONE knows who fought against the nazis. everyone knows FDR, Truman and Eisenhower.

the left absolutely needs to do something about the bastardization of antifa. it's getting completely out of control. anyone/everyone who believes in democracy should be anti-fascist.

There is a difference between being anti-fascist and being a part of Antifa. Antifa was recognized as a domestic terror threat by the Obama administration. Claiming allegiance to what is essentially a black bloc group would be horrible optics and would be incredibly easy for the right to exploit. The left needs to be seen as normal, not as just a different flavor of domestic extremism.

I disagree.

It’s high time we stopped letting Republicans commandeer words and labels that everyone should agree are positive and then muddy them up.
Everyone doesn't agree that Antifa is a positive thing that people would want a major party to be associated with:

Antifa supporters conduct counter-protests to disrupt far-right gatherings and rallies. They sometimes organize in black blocs—ad hoc gatherings of individuals who wear black clothing, ski masks, scarves, sunglasses, and other material to conceal their faces—use improvised explosives and other homemade weapons, and resort to vandalism.
When Antifa adherents clash with far-right demonstrators, violence occasionally breaks out, often involving fistfights, knives, fireworks, Molotov cocktails, and other improvised weapons. In June 2016, for example, Antifa and other protesters confronted a neo-Nazi rally in Sacramento, California, resulting in a chaotic brawl in which at least eight people were injured—including five who were stabbed, among them Antifa activists. Similarly, in February, March, and April 2017, Antifa members fought alt-right demonstrators at the University of California, Berkeley, using bricks, pipes, hammers, and homemade incendiary devices. At the “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in August 2017, Antifa activists confronted alt-right demonstrators with clubs, shields, fists, chemical irritants, and balloons filled with paint and ink.

Although Antifa extremists primarily use violence in the context of ideological clashes at demonstrations—many of which do not match common definitions of terrorism—some have also taken independent action against government targets perceived as unjust. In July 2019, Willem Van Spronsen, a self-proclaimed Antifa supporter and member of the Puget Sound John Brown Gun Club, attacked a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility in Tacoma, Washington, with an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle and attempted to ignite a 500-gallon propane tank. The attack was unsuccessful, and he was killed by police. Van Spronsen had distributed a manifesto prior to the attack in which he detailed his opposition to ICE detention policies, and he became the subject of online propaganda that branded him a martyr.

According to CSIS data, the only fatal attack in recent decades attributed to an Antifa extremist occurred at a demonstration in Portland, Oregon, on August 29, 2020, when Michael Reinoehl—a self-identified Antifa supporter—shot and killed Aaron “Jay” Danielson, a member of the far-right group Patriot Prayer. Reinoehl was killed by law enforcement officers five days later.
