"...Senators have in recent days made the case to Cabinet secretaries and other Trump officials to let money flow back into their states. They are trying to finagle exceptions to President Donald Trump’s sweeping executive orders or cuts made by billionaire Elon Musk’s U.S. DOGE Service that freeze hundreds of billions of dollars, including money for farmers and infrastructure projects. That push comes as the administration has also sought to fire a wide swath of federal employees — some of whom live in red states.

Even as many Republicans praise the ultimate goal of streamlining the federal government, some GOP senators spanning the ideological spectrum from Katie Boyd Britt (Alabama) to Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) have lobbied the Trump administration to reconsider its cuts or pauses to federal grants that support biomedical research and labs, or for programs supporting Native American tribes.

... Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama), a close Trump ally who supports the cuts, said last week that begging for funds may be the new normal, suggesting that lawmakers could lobby Musk to save spending they’ve allocated for their states as he slashes and cancels contracts at agencies.

“If we have to lobby for, ‘Hey wait a minute, what about the bridge in Birmingham?’ or, ‘There’s a bridge in Mobile’ or whatever, I think that could be very possible,” Tuberville told reporters.

... The use of impoundment could create a situation where lawmakers who are in good standing with the Trump administration have a better shot at restoring their funds, posing a potential conflict of interest, experts said. ..."

FAFO. What a bunch of dumbasses.
Not just dumbasses, but spineless, gutless hacks to boot. None of them have the guts to stand up to Dear Leader and Co-President Musk openly, so they're desperately trying to "negotiate" in private to save their own state or district's federal goodies from Musk's meat axe. And they'll fail because Trump and Musk know they're spineless and will likely never openly challenge or oppose them as long as they're terrified of their own base. The dumbassery part is that what they don't seem to realize is that as the pain settles in on their base they'll be the ones who those voters are screaming at, not Dear Leader or Musk.

If they start specifically protecting red states at the expense of blue states, that will cause states to secede and they will have the moral authority to do so. There is no way California and New York, who both contribute significantly to the federal government, would stand by and let that happen.

If that happens the only thing we ask of the US military is to back off.

The Constitution is very clear that Congress, not the President or Executive Branch, controls the power of the purse. All Congressional Republicans need to do is stand up to Trump and insist on reclaiming a power that shouldn't have been ceded to Trump and Musk to start with. And yet we all know that practically none of these Congressional Republicans are going to do shit publicly - they're all terrified of Dear Leader, Musk, and their own voters. So they have no one to blame but themselves, although they'll never admit it. Instead they'll continue to beg for scraps from Trump 2.0 and then try spin whatever they get as them working hard to save their districts and states from the deep cuts that are coming.

And in less-prosperous red states like WV or Mississippi or Alabama or Louisiana or Arkansas it's likely going to be especially devastating, because such a high percentage of people in those states depend on federal programs to get by. For example, wait until rural hospitals and other medical facilities start to close due to lack of federal funding and elderly rural Trumpers are driving 30, 40, or 50 or more miles to the closest hospital.

This is where we are headed no doubt.

When our well-meaning Trump supporters on this website ask, “how can you be against what Trump and Musk are doing when it comes to cutting waste and fraud,” this is one example of why. And certainly not the only example. And it isn’t a small thing.
So, stop asking that question. You may think it is still worth doing, but you have to understand that many people will not agree that chaos and anarchy are good ways to conduct government business (not to mention the constitutional crisis it is creating).

That is part of why Impoundment is Unconstitutional.
