No doubt. I’m sure the times he picked berries were when he and his family visited one of those farms where you can come in and pick your own berries. Then they took them home and his mom put them in some pie she baked. Thus, he picked berries that helped feed his family.

It was specifically exempted, so long as it didn't occur during school hours. I think it remains that way.
 
Never knew if it were law or custom. I know I never had to get a work permit until I was 16 and working construction one summer.

I just read the regs. Well, actually, I just skimmed them. And I'm not sure I had a full list of all applicable legal rules (farm law is NOT my specialty). So what I say on this topic is at best an approximation. That said, from what I read, it seems that the special exemption for family farms is that the school hours provisions don't even apply.
 
It was not that long ago that they wouldn't even start the school year in the fall until the tobacco crop has been harvested.
 
Trump is just doing what he has always done with his businesses. He refuses to pay for work done and/ or materials supplied and says “I will see you in court”. Those that can’t afford to fight are left holding the bag. That is essentially what is happening here. In a regular world congress would hold him accountable or at least be a check but this is where we are. And it is going to get much worse.
