The satirical news site intends to turn Infowars into a parody of itself. But the court overseeing the bankruptcy put a hold on the sale pending a hearing next week.

While I realize this won’t stop Alex Jones from profiting off a particularly virulent brand of angertainment and paranoia, I’ll take this for what it is - a small yet symbolic victory for the good guys.

Bankruptcy Judges are appointed by the Circuit Court Judges for the area. In this case the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. The 5th Circuit has a well earned reputation for being the most conservative Circuit in the country. No way a bunch of humorless right-wing judges are going to let such a national treasure like "Infowars" fall into the hands of a bunch of merry pranksters like "The Onion." It would be a whole "dogs and cats living together" scenario.

There were also some consequential changes to the bid process late in the first bid that seems to favor a particular outcome (the one that happened). Bankruptcy courts are generally going to favor maximizing return over cold revenge pretty much every time.
