Orange County DA says Scheyer is a liar

Well, he doesn't come out and say specifically he is a liar, but says there is no evidence a Duke basketball staffer was assaulted after the Duke and Carolina game, and it is patently obvious it didn't happen.

What is going on in Durham? Off the top of my head that's Scheyer making an unfounded accusation about assault, a Volleyball player making an unfounded accusation about racial slurs, and 88 professors making an unfounded accusation of 3 kids raping someone.

Don’t know about the volleyball story but the rape allegation was not “unfounded” — it turned out to be untrue but it was founded on the (false) claims of a woman claiming to be the victim and widely publicized by the D.A. So tough to say the professors made an unfounded accusation in that case, IMO, though certainly fair to question their response before the facts were determined.

Not gonna lie, I don’t understand why this isn’t a bigger story. Why does society just decide to collectively shrug that this dude lied? Like, we have 1000 camera angles, nothing close to what he said happened… happened.

It’s so bizarre to me that everyone will just kind of move on from the fact that he completely lied.

He knows what he saw? 🤔

Oh, how the tide turns

On Monday, Scheyer spoke to the media as part of his weekly ACC media conference. In less than 48 hours, the account of what occurred took a drastic turn, indicating that his staff members were NOT punched by any Tar Heels.

"Yeah so, he's fine... He's fine. But after the game, what happened was I came back in the locker room and I see he's got a bloody lip and he's disheveled and he didn't know what happened, he got trampled on the floor.

That was my main concern after the game and that's why I said what I said.

It was not a good situation. But he's doing better, he's fine. Ready to move on. I don't have anything more to say other than that was a very unsafe situation for him, our staff, our families, our players.

I'm a big boy, can take losing. Great college game, Carolina played great. But yeah, he's doing better."

What do you think should happen?

Very K-like or Trump-like comment.

Any Carolina fans think the “leg-kicker” isn’t “K Redux?”
He's learned his lessons well from his master. He'll likely never reach the well-deserved level of hate that K got from other fanbases (not just UNC), but if he keeps this up he'll certainly be more than worthy of every UNC fan's scorn and contempt.

Given everything that's happened in the political world and the daily dose of lies, smears, unproven conspiracy theories, and so on, it doesn't surprise me that stuff like this doesn't get any traction anymore, not only in politics but pretty much anywhere. You're right that it should be a bigger story, but given where we're at as a nation my guess is this will be forgotten by everyone but UNC fans tomorrow.

Understand that outside of the Duke/UNC sphere this probably seems petty since the DA is a UNC grad, but I am glad that someone is still pressing the issue here. Duke usually seems to get the benefit of the doubt with this stuff, so after seeing Scheyer immediately deflect from the loss and ESPN focus on the coaches apparently getting assaulted on the court instead of the actual game, it’s nice that there is some pushback.

When Duke comes back to a Chapel Hill next season, we can’t let anyone forget. Chants, signs, etc.

I think Scheyer was emotional after the game because dook lost, and he already has a stick up his butt about court storming, so he completely overplayed his hand and exaggerated what actually happened.
Look no further than him claiming that their families were afraid for their safety. Why would this be? Weren’t they sitting in their seats like every non-storming UNC fan who presumably were not afraid?
The dude exaggerated until the actual facts don’t line up with his story and that’s where we are.
