Hadn't thought about East in many years. Confined to a wheelchair, some wags referred to him as "Helms on Wheels."
I'm sure his health issues played a role in his suicide.
“Doc East” as he was known at the time was my professor for Poli Sci 10 (an introductory survey course) in the winter quarter of my freshman year at ECU 1972-73.
