I can hear the directions in my head: "You turn at the old dead tree beside the rusted out cutter."

Back around 1991, I delivered pizzas in Gastonia NC. You can imagine how many times I called a customer to ask for directions and got this exact response. I recall one guy telling me to turn where someone wrecked his car. He just assumed I knew Bubba and where he wrecked the car.

Looking back the directions were really pretty funny.

I was in line at the bank one Saturday several years ago. These two young men were in front of me. They were talking and one mentioned he delivered pizza. The other one said you must make good money on tips. The delivery guy said sometimes. He said he delivered a pizza to an apartment one time. The bill was $19.98. The customer gave him a $20 bill and told him to keep the change and closed the door. He said a stood for a minute thinking, “what the fuck am I going to do with 2 cents?”

I'm guessing the guy who handed over the $20 was never a participant in the "sevice economy." I'm also guessing that Howard Roark or John Galt were his personal heros. Probably believed he was doing the pizza delivery guy a favor by encouraging him to "move on."

Maybe I'll start a thread about this. I have so many funny stories.

This isn't the most beautiful pic but I am already planning all my plantings for the spring so thought I would post a pic of the tomato enclosure I built last year. Squirrels and to a lesser extent birds gave my tomatoes hell the year before. I wanted something that had lots of room and looked decent since my two plants get pretty big and the space I have for them is right by my deck. Anyway built this and even though the top is open, none of the marauders seemed to want to climb down into the cage. If anything they just messed with the tomatoes at the very top and left my larger ripening ones down below alone. All in all pretty pleased with the results.
