Look-In: We All Know That We Must Win On Every Occasion From Here On OUT. And so the Tar Heels alight in the largest city in Appalachia to take on the Panthers and their huge frontline and sterling backcourt. Pitt is led by 6-3 Do-It-All Sophomore Jaland Lowe (17.6ppg, 4.3rpg, and 5.7rpg) and 6-3 5th year stat-stuffer Ishmael Leggett (16.6ppg, 5.6rpg, 2.8apg). That backcourt duo scores 57% of Pitt’s team game average of 80.2 per game. Guillermo Diaz Graham, the 7-0 Canario starts up front and goes for 6.2ppg and 5.3rpg – if he’s not enough, his 6-11 twin, Jorge, is ready on the bench to replace him (3.6ppg). Both of the Spanish brothers shoot the three at will but Jorge with more accuracy. But before going there, Cameron Corhen, a whirlwind dunker fresh in from two years at Florida State, brings his 6-10 frame and 10.7ppg and 5.8rpg to the starting lineup. Rounding that five out is Zach Austin, a 6-7 yeoman sneaky shot-blocker from High Point U. and Winston-Salem who adds 9.5ppg and 4.2rpg. And there’s another North Carolinian ready off the bench in Kinstonian Damian Dunn (6-5, 9.9ppg) who spent time at Houston and Temple before settling into a final year in Pittsburgh. From Bosnia-Herzegovina, big (6-8) guard Amsal Delalić plays 14 minutes per game and contributes 3.6 ppg (shooting 40% from three). The Senegalese pivot Papa Amadou Kante (6-10, 2.7ppg and 1/7rpg) is ready should he be needed. Big Cats friends and ready for blood – dookie coach Capel will have his squad filled with venom and the dislikeable Pitt fans ought to be fired and full-of-it.

Frontcourt: Ven Allen Lubin is a fired up young man while Jalen Washington (presuming he will play) has the physical, the fire, and an overall motivation to succeed. Ty Claude has the best rhythms of the bigs (and on the team). James Brown is slightly below the fold.

Wings: Powell is in the doldrums while Ian Jackson has a soaring ‘want-to’ arc. Cade Tyson has but the emotion. Withers is in keeping with the emotion and has it.

Guards: Fire is Cadeau. R.J. is a downer, and Seth Trimble is a Bright Spot.

Overall: Strange biorhythms abound. Both squads are subpar but there is a great deal of heart on both sides. Needless to say this Carolina team has been a tough read all year long but it appears that it is good when The Emotion Arc is high – the motivation, the guts, the Sweat of George Lynch and the Blood of Joel Berry to put it in Tar Heel Terms. “Play Hard, Play Smart, Play Together.” Playing smart will be the challenge tonight. Trimble appears to be prepped and several others (Powell and R.J. Davis) absolutely most outplay their ritmos – Powell on defense (his forte) and R.J. on offense (his forte). Pleasing would be some down home Goldsboro Rec Center floor-burning, paint-pushing, killer-glaring Ty Claude minutes in both halves tonight. Those guards must be muffled – stopping Leggett is key – and pressuring Lowe every. minute. he. has. the. ball. Defense is most subject to the E-Arc and there is some inspiration. Vegas has this on at Pitt by 3.5 and the Biorhythms have Pitt by 4. Perfect combinations, Positivity, and Hard Play on Defense can overcome that. Keep the faith!

Expecting a great deal of push, shove, pull, and maybe even a trip thrown in as per the Rat Playbook. "Flood the Zone" with so much of that kind of "Defense" that the officials can't keep up and selectivity becomes the rule.

Hoping for the best, expecting the worst. Our short line up will look even smaller against that line up of 6’3”, 6’3”, 6’7”, 6’10” and 7’0”
I don’t bet, but if I did I’d have to take Pitt and give those 4.5 points Vegas is offering. This game has the stench of a double digit L. Trying to keep the faith that I’m way wrong and that we leave with no injuries.

If things go the way it looks, expect the Hubert haters to be out in force… even if we keep it close and play reasonably well.

Any word on if Jwash will go? Avoided major injury but doesn’t mean he can move well yet

Big loss if not. Matches up well with those lanky twins from Pitt

Please play Withers instead of Tyson. Need size and rebounding at some point

precisely.

the pushing, grabbing, hacking from pitt will be constant and the officials will call about 1/5 of it.

Is there a primer for all the details in the OP?

I read the description before every game, but I confess I have no idea what "P", "E", "I", and "X" actually mean. I also don't understand how "ritmos" is being used in these write-ups.

Is there a place to learn what all these details mean?

P = Physical, E = Emotional, I = Intellect, M = X-Factor
What each of those measures mean exactly is something that has to be divined over time...that makes freshmen particularly dicey calls, or players with little previous playing time. Over the years it has seemed that specific categories are important in different ways to individual players. The truly great ones seem to make the most out of any good arc value. The P=Arc is Physicality and tends to measure speed, strength, agility and coordination. The E=Arc is Emotion and is an indicator of where a player's "head" is on a particular date...Ready to play or reticent. The I=Arc is Intellect and tends to show the level of the player's mental preparation and reaction. For example, a low I=Arc can bode ill for making the proverbial "dumb play" or general execution. Sometimes I suspect that a player might be lying about their birthdate (LOL).

Of course, I have to admit that I do this for fun and essentially to be more fully engaged with the team and the season."

As an aside, I've been "doing the ritmos" since 2000. Originally on ACCBoards.com and subsequently other places, including Facebook, Instagram, once on Twitter, and now on BlueSky. @nycfan invited me over and asked whether I wanted to post them here...so I do.

Thanks! I appreciate the breakdown.

Agree, and hope we get "good" Withers tonight.
JWash MIA tonight would be very costly.

Hate to put this kind of pressure on us in late January but it would tremendously behoove us to steal a win on the road tonight. We have precious few opportunities remaining for wins that would move the needle in a positive direction for our NCAAT at-large hopes. We're going to need to sneak out a win against, at the very, very least, one of Pitt (x2), Duke (x2), and Clemson, IMO, while also avoiding losses to anyone outside of that group of three. I think we are down to being able to safely lose two more but no more.

I'm already triggered at how much 1. Pitt is going to successfully goon us, and 2. how much of an asshole Jason Capel is going to be on the sideline.

Well, it is almost a dead pipe lock cinch that we are losing more than two games. We are very, very likely to lose to Duke x2 and Clemson. That is 3 games right there. And we will almost assuredly drop one road game to another ACC team along the way.

Probably a good one to record and watch only if the Heels win.
I've been doing a lot of skipping ahead in UNC games this year. That was pretty much the only way I could watch the 2002 and 2020 seasons. Always a bad sign when I am fast-forwarding real game action.

Yeah, I tend to agree, unfortunately. I don't see us beating Duke, but who knows- Hubert emphasizes our game with them kind of like how Roy treated NC State so maybe that game in the Smith Center is an upset opportunity for us. Beyond that, I think we desperately need to go at least 1-2 in the three against Pitt and Clemson or our goose may be cooked no matter what. Wins against NC State, Florida State, Syracuse, Miami, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Syracuse won't help us at all (and of course any loss would be a killer).

We need to go 2-2 minimum the next four games to stay on the right side of the bubble. 1-3 or 0-4 and we likely will need to win out and get some ACCT wins.

Yep. Totally agree. We've got our work cut out for us, for sure. We're going to need to cheer hard for UCLA to keep winning, too.
