I didn’t post much over there. I’m more of a lurker. I’m blue collar, not college educated and suck at arguing my positions (probably the lack of college, ) although occasionally I’ll dive in. I’m also religious so some of the things that influence my positions aren’t provable and won’t make sense to those who aren’t .

The zzl definitely worked to change some of my positions, immigration and economy/labor being the big ones. First time around I voted for Trump but Biden second time around. Pat McCrory and NC pubs are what started my path towards where I am now.

My best friend is the smartest person I know, and he doesn't have a college degree. Neither does my dad. You don't lose one single damn point with me for not being college educated. A lot of these super educated types can't tell their ass from a hole in the ground anyway. I'm religious too, so we have that in common.

I hope you always feel welcome and accepted around here, and I'll have your back if you ever don't.

Thanks TarSpiel, look forward to some good discussions!

College doesn't make the man. Yes, it helps for learning how to argue positions (though law school helps far more for that, which is one reason politicians have historically been lawyers), but it's not the only way and regardless, having the right positions is much more important than arguing for them well. If you are open-minded, willing to listen to good faith arguments while rejecting quackery and BS, then I want you on my team. I don't need you to agree with me on everything, or even anything. I just ask that people have reasoned foundations for their views -- or as reasoned as possible consistent with their lives.
Thanks super I’m on board with all of that.

Sorry but RINO is better term than Non-MAGA Republican.
RINO began as a slam by the MAGA types and Trump enablers.

It is actually a fairly accurate descriptor and I take pride in being called a RINO. It is accurate because true Republicans no longer have a party. This MAGA nonsense is anything but Republican of former years.

No intellectualism. No actual legislation or trying to get anything done. No real discussion of meaningful policy to improve the lives of Americans and strengthen our country.

Just a bunch of aggrieved victimhood whiners trying to stamp out every group not like them (non-white, non-straight, non bible thumpers, the educated, science believers, country music haters, on and on).

And they support a fraud criminal con man and shallow fake Christianity which they want to force upon us all -- in public schools and the government and courts.

RINO started to be really popular with the tea party. But yeah fiscally conservative Republicans just really don't exist anymore. They are really now independents

I'm halfway between a mainstream Democrat and a far left Democrat. Probably further left than mainstream in terms of beliefs, but not all the way there because I believe there are some battles we need to take on more slowly and work for incremental change rather than try to force the whole far left program down everyone's throat all at once.

This thread/poll needs to be moved back to the top from time to time as new posters come aboard.

I think it is good to know the general makeup of the board. Of course it has always been dominate liberal, now with a few less Republicans as CFord, I and others ran from the MAGA and Trump cult.

Former Republican. Social Libertarian. Fiscal and foreign policy pragmatist/problem solving.

I'm also RINO and proud and agree with this post 100%.

I don't know where you're from Krafty, but it's worth pointing out, on a NC board, that some of us live in NC counties which are so deeply red that the Democratic party has essentially forfeited. In my county, the Ds routinely fail to nominate serious, viable candidates, and sometimes don't bother to nominate anyone at all; in town and county elections and judicial and state rep-levelel elections.

In rural, red NC, if you care about your county government and school board, registering Democrat isn't really an option. You register R and fight for the old school small business favoring Republicans vs. the MAGA crusaders and book burners.

This poll should almost have a sliding scale for state and county of respondent.

Poll needs “registered unaffiliated leans left” and “registered unaffiliated leans right”
Right and left leaning Libertarians ain’t getting it. That’s like asking “are you a Neal Boortz Libertarian or a Howard Stern Libertarian?”
Not sure how many on this board chooses either one.

But I’m guessing their may be more than a couple registered “Unaffiliated”.

Ding ding ding! I didn’t participate in the poll because it was about political parties rather than political philosophies. I am precisely a left-leaning unaffiliated voter. I’m not a Democrat or a Libertarian. I am a liberal. I tend to vote for Democrats, particularly since Donald Trump destroyed the Republican Party, but I do not identify as a Democrat, and all of the choices other than those on the extremes required me to choose a party.

When I wrote the poll, I really didn't - and don't - give much of a crap how people define themselves politically or ideologically. I wanted just kind of a broad-brush-stroke snapshot of what board is like overall...and I think the poll ended up illustrating that pretty well.

It's overwhelmingly liberal, which I think we all knew. But I'm surprised at just *how* overwhelmingly liberal it is.

Great minds think alike?
