I actually kind of like the optics of this as a renunciation of MAGA and right-wing extremism globally, regardless of whether that was intended. The new Pope is from a city that no longer exists except as a zombie-infested post-apocalyptic wasteland, spent much of his career in a shithole country in a part of the world that is emptying its prisons and dumping all its murderers and rapists in rural Ohio, plays a game owned by the ultra-liberal New York Times (Wordle) with one of his brothers, and has another brother living his best life as a Florida Man. I also bet we find out Leo was the name of the bookie down the street that this guy's dad visited on Sunday mornings while they were growing up in Chicago. I'm not Catholic, but I'm already a big fan.
