Doesn’t bother me at all but that type of attitude (considering Rs garbage) is partially why the Ds are completely out of power and will remain so until they come to at least respect 50%+ of their fellow citizens.
I would never make a general statement that all republicans are garbage. Blanket statements like that are stupid.

trump is a piece of shit, which is puzzling that some people I know that I otherwise respect would vote for him.

Hearing a co-worker say that they knew he was a piece of shit, but they had to hold their nose and vote for the party, now how can anyone respect that?

What is it that makes you want to vote for him? Which policy? Or do you simply like your leaders to constantly call people names and make fun of disabled people, veterans, and pretty much anyone that doesn't worship him?

Is it his promise to deport 15 million immigrants? Most I've spoke with that support this haven't really considered the economic impacts when we don't have these people in the work force. And the lies he constantly told that all immigrants are murders, criminals, or mental patients is simply that, a fucking lie.

Is it the authoritarian position that he believes he should be the supreme leader and be able to fire anyone in government that doesn't bow down to him?

Which policy got your vote? Or do you simply, blindly vote republican?

So you wouldn’t be proud of them if they voted for the nation’s other major political party?
It has nothing to do with which party they voted for.

It has to do with voting for a decent person.

If my daughter had voted Obama, while I voted Romney that wouldn't bother me at all.

In my life I've never worried that our democracy may well be at risk if a certain candidate won, until Jan 6th and trump proved that he didn't give a fuck about our country, only being worshiped. Which is pretty obvious from every aspect of his life and what he constantly says.

All issues aside, I don't understand how anyone outside the immediate cult could vote for such a person.

Quite a reach to compare a heroin addict to someone who votes for the GOP. If I’m proud of and respect my own son for voting for the other party (and hating Trump) it stands to reason I respect those who differ from me politically.

I won’t argue further as to why the Ds lost so decisively - that’s an intra family issue.

So you wouldn’t be proud of them if they voted for the nation’s other major political party? Wow, this is why families break apart for stupid political differences.

My wife, adult daughter and me are proud Republicans/MAGA. My adult son is a Romney type Republican who hates Trump and voted for Kamala. I consider all of us to be good and intelligent citizens; moral people; well educated; and productive members of society. He just sees certain issues differently and that’s OK.

Politics should not be a religion.
No offense, but I have zero respect for anyone that would vote for Trump, and even less respect for those that would consider themselves “Proud MAGA.” That’s just fucking weird and sad.

That being said, I do agree that blood SHOULD BE thicker than politics, so I can appreciate that you still treat your family the same no matter who they voted for. That’s the sign of a good parent.

But moral? Uh uh. I can’t bring myself to meet you in agreement on that.

@Ramrouser

Just a question.

What is it that you are so proud of trump for?

I'm actually curious.

My FIL is the one MAGA Republican that I’m close with that just can’t help but shoehorn Trump or politics into every conversation, without fail.
Completely been there. Know one that can't go without shoehorning some kind of hateful shit or attempting to.

I'm not sure about the blood thing.

My brother is pretty much a piece of shit. I feel sorry for him that he's had a tough life and that he struggles with addiction. But he takes no responsibility and blames everyone else, including me I found out visiting when my dad died.

As soon as I can get my mother situated and sell her house, I'll never see him again.

This isn't some unique phenomenon in the US where Trump and Republicans are going to redefine America. It's a global reaction to a pandemic and inflation with a heavy dose of disinformation.

Like with the 2016 backlash against the global elites, it’s a backdrop but not the sole or primary reason.

Quick response:

Life long conservative - came of age during Reagan.
I like most of Trump’s policies and love how he attacks the biased mainstream media.
I get why a lot of people hate Trump, but…
Judges
Tax policy
Cut regulation
All of the above energy policy
Secure border
Anti-woke and pro common sense
Stands up to anti-Semite protestors.

Lawfare made me hard core and “proud MAGA”. NY and GA cases total BS. Best friend and law partner one of the charged Ga RICO defendants.

Time to focus on UNC/KU pregame so I wish everyone a good evening.

And yet Republicans don't have to respect Democrats at all. It has grown very tiresome to listen to self-righteous Republicans talk about Democrats needing to respect them when from Trump down your side does nothing but threaten, trash, and disrespect liberals and Democrats all the time. In his campaign Trump has threatened to kill Democrats, ruin their careers, called us evil and in league with Satan and on and on. And yet your side is perfectly fine with all that, but have a Democrat say something like garbage and y'all lose your shit. Respect is a two-way street, but apparently not to MAGA Nation. The clear message that your side is sending is this: We can insult and trash-talk and threaten you all we want, but you need to just smile and stay humble and polite while we tell you to go to hell and fuck you to your face. And that's why you're not going to get the respect you want, no matter how many elections Democrats lose. It's pure hypocrisy from your side, given Trump's endless threats and insults.

This board has been filled with dramatic posts. Many from people who seem like they’re teetering on the edge of a mental health crisis.
Well, given that you're not the one who has been threatened by Trump and his supporters no doubt you don't care. One of Trump's Attorney General candidates has been saying "fuck unity" and that he wants to drag the dead bodies of liberals around (he later qualified it by saying he just wanted to drag their dead political and legal bodies around, as if they made much difference.) Given all of the crap that Trumpers have threatened to do - including using the government to go after liberal groups - liberals are right to be worried, anxious, and even terrified. If I were a transgender person I would be terrified right now.

But of course you're a Trumper and so you have no worries about that at all. It's not melodramatic to be worried if you're a liberal, it's common sense.

Heroin addict is an extreme example. What if your son was convicted of 34 felonies and found liable for sexual assault? I doubt you’d feel proud, though I think you’d still love him.

Respectfully disagree. That isn’t why Democrats are out of power . They’re out of power for the same exact reasons that quite literally every single other incumbent party in every other developed country in the world has lost their respective elections this year and last year: perceived out of control cost of living/inflation.

If the reason that Democrats were out of power was because they “call Trump supporters garbage”, why are Republicans *in power* after calling Democrats garbage (and worse)? That logic doesn’t compute.

Maybe social media putting the wealth gap in everyone’s face 24/7?

Not everyone is voting on character.
But, if they are, there is character of the candidate but also character of the party…
