Most, not everyone. Unfortunately. Especially when they are in positions of power.
 
FDA staff have started to be let go over the weekend. Unclear which/how many. I’m not sure of the exact breakdown, but a significant part of the FDA’s funding comes from user fees paid pharmaceutical and food companies. So it’s not even an agency funded entirely by the federal government.

These cuts absolutely will absolutely result in delays and inefficiencies for drug companies. They’re already understaffed and very close to missing review deadlines and decisions. It will only get worse from here with less staff.
 
Is there any way that stay on top of relevant vaccines with this asshole running HHS? I get the flu vaccine and Covid vaccine, but if something new should start to circulate with all of the defenses down, how would we know what is needed, when and how?

Is there a way to know? My PCP is usually on top of things but I have brought up new tests (new to me) or updates to current tests. Don’t want to get caught with my proverbial pants down…well depends on the the situation 😂

I think you have to hope your pcp is 1. following WHO recommendations and international medical research and 2. Recognizes rfkjr as a charlatan. We’re already lagging on flu vaccine development for the fall, and with rfkjr already manipulating flu vaccine recs, we should not rely on the US government to have anything close to our best interest in mind. On an individual front, seek info from the WHO, NHS, JAMA, and independent healthcare reporters, here and abroad. Truth is, most doctors are going to seek out a lot of the info for you, but I wouldn’t implicitly trust.

Usually try to stay on top of health matters but how does the US pulling out of the WHO affect recommendations from the WHO for everyone? Will we even hear it? Be able to access it?

Definitely. It already happened during covid. I remember people I had thought were relatively smart up to that point telling me with a straight face that they had taken ivermectin - a drug meant for horses! - or their parents had taken it. There were a number of stories of right-wing radio talk show hosts in various cities dying because they refused to take the covid vaccine and had told their listeners not to take it, and then when they were told they had to go on the ventilator and realized they were going to die they finally changed their tune. And I have no doubt that many of his supporters will behave the same way again.

How? His party controls every part of the federal government. Congressional Republicans have made clear that they aren't going to stop him, and right now literally the only thing stopping him and Musk and his other minions from quite literally gutting the federal government are federal judges, who can be overruled by higher courts. And if they decide to just ignore court rulings who is going to stop them? Yes the Democrats might win control of Congress in 2026, but there's no guarantee and that's still nearly two years away. If we had just a year or so left in his term "running out the clock" might work, but there's just too much time left, imo. There is no good way out of this mess, and it's all going to get very, very ugly before it's over.

I’m inclined to think at 30,000ft or 3”, so I often miss explanations like “sometimes, smart people act real dumb and/or hateful”, particularly when the evidence is so blatantly counter to the decisions made. I think it’s a meshing of the “government can’t tell me what to do” and the “anti-intellectual” wings of the Republican Party finding common ground on being against vaccines.

And, of course, these two groups of ne’er-do-wells found each other during COVID and this is an extension of that fight.
