“But the new guidance could stop insurance companies from refusing to cover the shots, as experts were worried they might after Kennedy's earlier statements, and will preserve the shots' availability for about 38 million low-income children who rely on the Vaccines for Children program.

The out-of-pocket cost for a Covid vaccine at a CVS pharmacy—where some patients could opt to go if their doctors don't want to administer the vaccine—is $198.99.”

Isn’t the key phrase there “if their doctors don’t want to administer the vaccine?” If someone needs the vaccine and their doctor refuses, they have a doctor problem.

Is it clear that the vaccine would be cheaper at the doctor's office if insurance isn't covering it or if it currently is, continue to be? These people are actively attacking the entire process. Do you expect them to leave this kind of loophole?

Yep. I have been getting all of my vaccines at CVS and insurance has covered everyone. Could I get it at my doctor’s office? More than likely. But while it is cheaper it is much less convenient. And some people don’t have a PCP so that makes it more difficult because you’re probably not an established patient anywhere. Novel idea. Maybe they should just stop f’ing with vaccines.

MAHA… That’s a new one. Means make “Make America Hell Again” ? Could happen if Trump and Doc Kennedy take us back to mid-1950s for vaccinology. Oh, “What Fools We Are” !

I have no clue. The article highlights that the cost would be insane at pharmacies if doctors refuse to give it in their office. That’s what I was responding to.

I expect that the attitudes toward vaccines were a lot more favorable then than now. They had a much better idea of the risk/ gain side of things. I expect a lot more people either buried a child or knew someone who did because they didn't previously have a vaccine.

In fairness, autism wasn't even recognized at that time, but ,also in fairness, neither the scope or cause of autism is understood now. There's no reason to let that fear have any sway.

It’s more complicated than that. For those on Medicare, it depends on if it is a vaccine administered under Part B (doctors office visits) or part B (prescription drug plan.)
  • Part B: Generally covers vaccines considered essential preventive care, like flu shots, pneumonia, hepatitis B, and COVID-19.
  • Part D: Covers other recommended vaccines, such as those for shingles, RSV, and tetanus, typically those not covered by Part B.

Trump administration ending multiple HIV vaccine studies, scientists and officials say

“The Trump administration has moved to end funding for a broad swath of HIV vaccine research, saying current approaches are enough to counter the virus, multiple scientists and federal health officials say.

Notifications that the funding would not be extended were relayed Friday to researchers, who were told by National Institutes of Healthofficials that the Department of Health and Human Services had elected "to go with currently available approaches to eliminate HIV" instead…”

The drug, which is being brought to the commercial market by drugmaker Gilead Sciences, builds on NIH-backed research into earlier HIV medications. The drug's availability could lead to a significant drop in HIV cases worldwide, since a study found it was 100% effective in preventing transmission.

This is so great. I had no idea we had come so far.

I suspect it would be the same or similar out of pocket cost. The vaccine itself is likely the majority of the fee.

But does any reasonable person think the best way to fine the cause of autism is a game of vaccine Jenga? Placing my bet on science.

I am extremely confident that autism is not caused by any vaccine or external anything. It has a strong genetic component. I am also extremely confident that it is not related to an pathogen that could be vaccinated.

I wonder if one reason that autism diagnoses have skyrocketed is that autism became more respected. Suicide rates among autistic people dropped a lot, and one also wonders if they were more accepted socially. In other words, maybe one reason autism is more common these days (assuming arguendo that it is more common and not just a measurement artefact) is that autistic people are having more children.

My guess is part measurement artifact, part broadening of the diagnosis and very large part the fact that it's accepted as a condition at all with its own problems and ways of coping so even borderline cases are seeking help.
