“Suggestions that acetaminophen use in pregnancy causes autism are not only highly concerning to clinicians but also irresponsible when considering the harmful and confusing message they send to pregnant patients, including those who may need to rely on this beneficial medicine during pregnancy.

“Today’s announcement by HHS is not backed by the full body of scientific evidence and dangerously simplifies the many and complex causes of neurologic challenges in children. It is highly unsettling that our federal health agencies are willing to make an announcement that will affect the health and well-being of millions of people without the backing of reliable data.

This is so dangerous. Hep B in a newborn can cause fulminant liver failure and require a transplant

I’ve just got to be really clear about this: there is no evidence to link the use of paracetamol by pregnant women to autism in their children. None.

In fact, a major study was done back in 2024 in Sweden, involving 2.4 million children, and it did not uphold those claims.

So I would just say to people watching, don’t pay any attention whatsoever to what Donald Trump says about medicine. In fact, don’t take even take my word for it, as a politician – listen to British doctors, British scientists, the NHS.

I think Mr Cochran misunderstood the statement. It could have been worded don't use Tylenol (or generic acetaminophen) during pregnancy for routine pain relief because it may cause autism. Only use Tylenol (or generic acetaminophen) during pregnancy to reduce high fevers.

They are not confused about Tylenol vs generic acetaminophen. Tylenol is what the "it" is in "...pregnant women only to use it, or generic acetaminophen, for high fevers..."
