[It is difficult to be much more consistently pro-Trump than Strassel has been for a decade]

“During the Biden years, Republicans skewered Xavier Becerra—a career litigator and politician—as incompetent and unsuited to serve as health and human services secretary. Oh, for the days of mere incompetence.

Donald Trump’s HHS presents something far more absurd. HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has married ineptitude to pet obsessions, producing a goat rodeo for the ages. New week, new mess: purgings, resignations, policy reversals, conflicts of interest, elimination of transparency. The agencies Mr. Kennedy oversees—the Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institutes of Health—already had problems after years of politicization and squandered credibility. Now they have problems on RFK levels of testosterone.

… Strip away how one feels about food dyes or processed food, Covid boosters or failed “experts,” and you are still left with a mess.

… One big problem: RFK alone among Mr. Trump’s cabinet members is pursuing his own agenda, not the president’s vision. … Mr. Kennedy? He’s perusing lists of his trial-lawyer friends, deciding whom to award influential government positions.

You’re forgiven if you don’t remember Mr. Trump’s campaign promise to empower Mr. Kennedy’s litigator set.

Performance? Nothing is getting done, in part because Mr. Kennedy can’t put together or keep a team.

… If Mr. Kennedy can’t find anyone to work with, it’s because he’s one of the only Trump cabinet officials who divide the base. The Make America Healthy Movement has gained some steam, mostly because of the Kennedy perch. But if there is a minority of HHS “customers” that gets jazzed by a raw-milk debate, there are many more (including Republicans) who find Mr. Kennedy a quack or would appreciate if he devoted even a few minutes to improving their Medicare experience.

And literally no one feels more confidence right now in the CDC or FDA—since no one knows who is in charge or how they are going to reverse themselves next. You can count Mr. Kennedy’s genuine GOP supporters in the Senate on one hand—even if their colleagues are too chicken to say anything publicly.

… This is overshadowing Trump successes. Are we talking this week about how the administration cut crime in Washington, or GOP plans for housing? No. We are talking about a Kennedy mess.

… Mr. Kennedy’s headlines are of the latter [negative] type, and they are making it too easy for critics to smear the entire administration.

… Mr. Trump presumably has to see that one of his departments looks decidedly unlike the others. And that this situation isn’t going to improve or settle down. The question is how long he allows this exercise in political self-harm to continue. The president honored a rival’s endorsement by giving him a top job. But no cabinet position is a sinecure, and Mr. Kennedy has had his trial run. There are plenty of other bold transformers that can take that job. Maybe it’s time for some interviews.“

Florida is right to end school vaccine mandates. Kids should fistfight measles

For too long, Americans have had to stand back and watch as vaccines deny children the chance to combat viruses and bacteria the natural way, either with firearms or in hand-to-microbe combat.

Florida officials plan to do away with all vaccine mandates for children, and as a self-proclaimed health expert who has read many things on the internet, I couldn’t be happier.

For far too long, Americans have been forced to follow “proven medical science” and “basic public health policies” and “common sense.” But not anymore, at least not in the free state of Florida.

The state’s surgeon general, Dr. Joseph Ladapo, stood alongside Gov. Ron DeSantis recently and – inspired by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who also reads things on the internet – said the plan is to do away with all rules that require children to be vaccinated.

“… Just as we began to recover [for the mass shooting at CDC Atlanta], I was confronted with another challenge—pressure to compromise science itself.

… Robert F. Kennedy Jr., pressured me to resign or face termination. But that meeting revealed that it wasn’t about one person or my job. It was one of the more public aspects of a deliberate effort to weaken America’s public-health system and vaccine protections.

… One of the troubling directives from that meeting more than a week ago: I was told to preapprove the recommendations of a vaccine advisory panel newly filled with people who have publicly expressed antivaccine rhetoric. That panel’s next meeting is scheduled for Sept. 18-19.

… Once trusted experts are removed and advisory bodies are stacked, the results are predetermined. That isn’t reform. It is sabotage….”

He's (further) angling for the Nobel Peace prize, and he knows his best shot is to keep pushing Operation Warp Speed and other things like it. It's a net good thing, but it definitely isn't because he cares about people dying from not being vaccinated, as he repeatedly demonstrated during the pandemic.

The GQP is 100% committed to DON'T BELIEVE YOUR LYING EYES AND EARS! policy regime. This is a consortium of genuine kooks, sociopathic tech billionaires, con artist grifters, and impossibly insecure, retributive, grievance inundated psychopaths, selling a bill of goods to millions of amygdala driven, tribalistic, foresight impaired dipshits. maga politicians are essentially saying "we're trying to kill you and your children" and maga eat up the excrement like it's manna.

From months back.

And to clarify, I no longer work in the referenced system, rather a much smaller one, with more stretched resources, with a provider staff made up of a greater % foreign docs, and a larger exburb and rural catchment. The lack of treatment for chronic health issues - very treatable ones - is enormous, and costs the system FAR more than an expansion of primary and preventative care ever would. This is essentially a maga system that is slowly failing bc of whom the maga vote for, and the policies they enact.

I said since the election, thousands, possibly hundreds of thousands, of Americans will needlessly die due to ttump, just like the first time around. Within the first few days, I'm thinking I was sanguine. The removal of USAID is another story, but will almost certainly result in hundreds of thousands (probably millions) of unnecessary international deaths. See funding of health clinics, HIV drugs, malaria, mpox, etc.

As a direct result of Musk's meddling and the malignant malice of ttump, miller, vought, et al. nursing homes and hospitals will shut down; ttump et al. are hiding information regarding communicable diseases and public health risks (i.e. they'll let corporations dump metaphorical cancer into rivers x, y, z); ttump et al. are creating barriers to care for people on Medicare and Medicaid; they're hamstringing research into cancer, genetic disorders, etc..

My healthcare system is scrambling just to fill vacant clinical roles, while also loosely communicating an ominous future, i.e. uncertain reliability of medicare and medicaid payments, planning for significant budget cuts, pairing back specialty care, etc. Mind you, this is a teaching and research institution that right now is so overloaded and understaffed that cancer patients are boarded in hallway nooks; the emergency department literally has patients lining the hallways, for 50 yards, outside the department (not to mention the waiting room chaos). An element of this is certainly the dearth of qualified clinicians vs demand; however, the money is there to fund all of the necessary care and research, but the techbroligarchs and fascists are actively consolidating power and resources for themselves and their cronies, at the expense of 99.8% of everyone else.

Millions worldwide will needlessly die as a direct and knock-on effect of this admin. They’ll only backtrack in the high profile cases that impact the people they’ve conned - everyone else is fucked.

That an Andrew Wakefield follower is now promoting the MMR vaccine is only because this outbreak is occurring in a ruby red area, and has reach a level of spread to genuinely threaten a regional epidemic; that this is threatening Lubbock is a big deal. That’s bad optics, in an “oh shit, the proletariat is getting restless” manner. The 700 starving children fed daily by USAID, or the 20 MILLION receiving PEPFAR, or the tens of thousands receiving purified water in war torn regions, are currently in grave danger, and there’s reason to believe this admin views tens of millions of American in similarly, arguably more, disdainful ways.
