When I was young, my parents were friends with a couple a few years older than them. Their daughter had contracted polio and was in an iron lung. They were able to afford 24/7 nursing care for her. I remember going into her room and seeing her in it. I pray we are not coming to a time when those things will be needed again.

my high school Spanish teacher had polio when she was younger, nearly an entire side of her body was paralyzed. Kind of amazing she learned to walk

A woman who was our receptionist at a company I worked for had polio in her right arm. The arm was twisted and she couldn’t use it. She was right handed and had to learn to write with her left.
I was a baby when the vaccine came out. When my mother heard the news of the vaccine, she sat down and cried because she knew I would be protected from that horrible disease.

Been long saying HHS would be the most destructive aspect of disastrous admin, as long as trumps idiocy does not lead to nuclear destruction. The damage to the very real possibility of curing several types of incurable cancers is a catastrophic disaster for humanity in addition to the millions of children that will likely be killed and/or disable by easily preventable disease. mRNA technology is likely the best technology, in concert with transplants and immunotherapy, for addressing autoimmune disease including our immune systems’ inability to target cancer.

For the record I speak largely about Americans as this admin has already killed and disabled hundreds of thousands by eliminating USAID.
