RIP Bob Weir

Dicks Picks Vol 1 made me a fan. That is a fantastic run. For me I never really could get into 80’s-90’s Dead. I hate the switch from a piano sound to keyboards/organ whatever. The piano added some depth, texture, the latter was very thin, tinny, flat. But to each his own. I also really liked the initial sound that was just raw psychedelic energy and the transition and blending of psychedelia with cowboy dead.
I prefer 70s Dead as well. I do enjoy the 80s/90s sound with the midi too though. It gave a lot of the songs a nice change of pace and I like Brent Mydland’s playing and backing vocals.

A lot of the songs that they debuted in that era never clicked for me. Sometimes I’ll listen to a show and when tracks like We Can Run, Blow Away, I Will Take You Home, etc. show up they just don’t quite sound like they fit in the catalogue to me.

72-74 Dead is really good. 77-78 is also really good.

I like a lot of 80s Dead but it often depends on how into the show Jerry was.

It is with profound sorrow and eternal gratitude that we wish a grand farewell to our dear friend Robert Weir. Bob was always full of restless hope and a burning desire to do good in this world. He once said that his success was due to the ever-present sense of adventure that was the very heart of his music and that the hearts of his audience resonated with the same rhythms. His adventure will continue on with all those he inspired over his incredible life.

We know the big reunion on the other side will be felt as a surge of joy in the cosmos. And we hope everyone joins us in a big wolf howl farewell for our
@BobWeir. Thank you for the amazing ride.

Sincere condolences to Bob’s beautiful wife Natascha and his lovely daughters, Chloe and Monet. We love you so much and are pleased to have grown close over the years despite life on the road. We honor this cosmic entanglement within the band and all of those around us; we love you.

Love and joy to everyone,
The Garcia Family
