While I know the Brian Wilson would not have been playing with them, I still am disappointed in myself for not realizing that this past Saturday, June 7th, The Beach Boys were playing at a fairly small (3,500), open-air venue about a 10-minute drive from my home. I like The Beach Boys. I saw them play at Carmichael in April 1973. Really enjoyed the show. To have seen them 52 years later would have been special. Woulda, coulda, shoulda, the sad story of my life.

It’s crazy to think that he was the brains behind The Beach Boys but did not perform with them in the vast majority of their shows.

Saw The Beach Boys at Chapel Thrill in 1979 or 1980. Everybody was with them including Brian. He would walk slowly from one side of the stage to the other from one piano to another after some songs. They still sounded good.

I think Mike Love, a cousin, was the only original member on this tour. But they did have John Stamos on guitar, for what ever that's worth.

One of my favorites summers swimming was 1976…….no……it was several summers…..‘75-‘77……

Our coach had an early iteration of a “boom box.” He played cassette tapes. Of The Beach Boys. All practice long.

This was at the Kessing Pool - just outside of Woollen Gym - the only bad thing about the Kessing Pool is that it was 50 yards and not 50 meters.

I was the antithesis of Allen Iverson. I loved practice AND I wasn’t athletic.

I did love hearing “Sloop John B.” or “Good Vibrations” or “Wouldn’t it be Nice” belting out as I came to the west end of the pool - which I did A LOT.
