RIP, Chuck Mangione

Damn! Loved his appearances on King of the Hill.
Yep. That's where I first heard of him, and he was great on that show. My favorite Mangione episode was the one where Hank reluctantly recommends Dale to exterminate some rats that are living in the local Mega-Lo-Mart. Dale becomes convinced that Chuck Mangione is somehow haunting the store, but it turns out to be some punk loser Mega-Lo-Mart employees who are wearing Mangione masks and playing around in the store after it closes at night. They capture Hank, Bill, and Boomhauer, but the real Mangione is actually living (hiding) in the store and helps Dale to rescue his friends and stop the employees. Good stuff. RIP.

Saw him somewhere in Raleigh in the early 80s [1981?]. Had first heard his music on that Sunday afternoon/evening show on WQDR which I think was called the TripleZZZ countdown.

I always remember delivering papers in the late 70s. When there was a threat of rain, I'd take the family's station wagon with an AM-only radio. I remember "Feel's So Good" piercing through the early morning gloaming. Innocent, yet good, times from long ago. I miss them and I miss Chuck Mangione.

another one of us old guys has died. Youngsters are not going to be affected still thinking they will live forever, but us old guys knows we are on the death path. The only question is how far we will get to walk down that path before we pass into nonexistence.

I always liken life to the conveyor belt in the movie "The Wall". We're getting closer to the top of the belt. Soon we'll be dumped into the meat-grinder vat below.
