One of the quintessential outlaw country singers has passed. Amazing that he made it to 86.

I saw him do a show at the old Palomino Club in Burlington in 1993 where he struggled to remember lyrics. The show was the same night UNC beat Arkansas in the Sweet Sixteen on the way to the National Championship.

I mainly knew about David Allen Coe from his recording of You Never Even Called Me by My Name and then I saw Heartworn Highways -that was definitely an eye opening movie

An amazing songwriter and singer.

A super complicated legacy and not necessarily the best person.

RIP, DAC.

Yeah I remember he was popular with some folks I knew back in high school but never really my cup of tea. Maybe he changed over the years but I thought he was pretty much a racist asshole.

The Palomino Club. Haven’t heard that name in awhile. The building was used as a thrift store for several years. It’s a curb market now.
