RIP George Wendt

Man, this sucks. I always liked him, especially as Norm.

Also, he was tangentially related to one of my favorite Animaniacs segments of all time…

RIP, George Wendt.

There was one Thanksgiving episode where everyone got together to celebrate, including Norm's wife. By the time Norm's wife finally arrived, the Thanksgiving dinner had degraded into a food fight and the moment she walked through the door, she got a pie in the face and that was all we saw of her. IIRC, that was her only appearance in the series. In the lead-up to her appearance, I had convinced myself that she was going to be portrayed by some very famous actress in a one-time appearance. Apparently, neither Norm's wife nor I saw it coming.

ETA: Norm's wife, Vera, was played by Bernadette Birkett, who--in real life-- was married to the actor George Wendt.

I found a youtube clip of every scene where he walks into the bar and they go through the "Afternoon everybody" "NORM!" "Joke back and forth" bit. It is pretty phenomenal.

I saw that too. Got some really good laughs from it.
