Has been since the treatment ended. Mid January will be my five years. That's considered cured. Coming out of it in better shape that I was in a couple of years before diagnosis. About the only issues are a bit of a stiff neck from radiation damage and one vocal chord that was frozen by the combination of cancer and radiation. I can't talk loud and sound like I'm gargling gravel but that's pretty small change all things considered.

Fwiw, it's nothing I did or any great heroic struggle I made. I was, at best, a grunt in the group that that got the battlefield ready, I showed up when I was told and did what they said, then got out of the way of the real fight. Some of it sucked a lot but it's not like you got some sort of choice of how to deal with it. I just got up the next day and did what I could.

We saw Sierra Ferrell at Red Hat on Friday night, kind of the grand finale performance of the World of Bluegrass festival in Raleigh this weekend, she performed Me and Bobby McGee. Very nice performance, she's kind of an amalgam of Dolly Parton and Janis Joplin and she did it justice...

Did they recommend you give up smoking weed? Did you switch to gummies?

Not exactly but when they put the trach in, it was next to impossible. I did gummies briefly but the radiation made me start aspirating so it was 4-5 months without anything except small sips of water and had to use a g-tube. I ended up making homemade tincture and just putting it in the g-tube. It was close to three years before I could smoke again. It took two years before they removed the trach. The stoma still didn't heal naturally like it should because of the amount of radiation and I eventually had to have it closed surgically. It's hard to inhale smoke when air comes in from a hole in your throat. You need three hands for pipe ,lighter, and a finger to put over the hole.
