Phil Donahue, talk show host, dead at 88

(CNN) — Phil Donahue, who set a new format for daytime television as host of “The Phil Donahue Show” for nearly three decades, has died, his family announced in a statement on Monday to People and NBC News.

He chose honest discussions when most were moving to trash TV and paid the price for it in ratings. Lots of respect for that.

Given, all of those shows were a little bit exploitative but Donahue and Oprah were by far the classiest.

Fun fact: Phil Donahue went to St Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio, which is where Jawad Williams went to high school.
