I went to a trivia night recently and during the final round they always show a random movie clip and you have to identify the movie. That was the scene they showed.

We recently lost Gene Hackman before this. There are a number of aging iconic actors/actresses who we will always have through the films (and sometimes shows) they have made, but it is hard to imagine them no longer being with us in the real world. Among them (from oldest to youngest): Clint Eastwood (95), Robert Duvall (94), Ellen Burstyn (92), Shirley MacLaine (91), Judi Dench (90), Warren Beatty (88), Jack Nicholson (88), Morgan Freeman (88), Dustin Hoffman (88), Anthony Hopkins (87), Jane Fonda (87), Julie Christie (85), Al Pacino (85), Faye Dunaway (84), Nick Nolte (84), Barbra Streisand (83) Harrison Ford (83), Robert De Niro (82), Ben Kingsley (81).

Didn't realize Eastwood was that old. Crazy that he is still producing content. He directed a movie that came out last year but the rumor is that might be his last one. Still impressive to be making movies in your 90's.

How's this for weird timing? We played "The Sting" on one of our screens a couple of weeks ago.

What a good-looking man Redford was. The camera loved his face. Paul Newman was like that, too. I loved seeing "The Candidate" when I was young. A guilty pleasure of mine from his filmography that never gets mentioned is "The Electric Horseman".

A great person who did great things, firstly, but without question an acting icon, ranking with people like James Cagney and Spencer Tracy, as among the most charismatic male actors in cinema history.

Films I will point to because others unfairly forget them, two prison dramas which ask us to regard prisoners as human beings (which America tends not to): Brubacker (which rocket launched the career of Morgan Freeman), and The Last Castle, a kind of mythical hero film to a degree, but was massively underrated by most everyone, and gave a great role to James Gandolfini, for one of his best performances as well.
 
My top 3 would be Jeremiah Johnson, The Natural, Three Days of the Condor. I also rewatched All Is Lost last evening, itself wholly defining of his skill without benefit of dialog.
