To be clear, the pasted bit above is not what Rubio said but the tweeter’s view. Rubio just transitioned from bland speak about the difficulty of resolving the Russia Ukraine conflict to hey everyone thought Gaza looked hopeless u til there was a breakthrough. So conceding Ukraine negotiations may look hopeless but something could happen to change the trajectory.

The tweeter’s thoughts sound a lot like what Senator Rubio would’ve said, not Trump crony Rubio. And that would put Rubio at odds with Russian aggression apologists like VP Vance.

The Rūdninkai forest is very close to Russian assets. Some very vicious fights between the Germans and the resistance there in 1943.

Putin Dangles Rare Earths Deals for U.S. in Russia and Occupied Ukraine

In an interview broadcast on Monday, President Vladimir Putin said U.S. companies stood to profit in Russia, but suggested a Ukraine peace deal was still far off.

“…
Mr. Putin, in an interview with Russian state television that was released late Monday, said that Russia had an “order of magnitude” more rare earth metals than Ukraine and that Moscow was “ready to work with our foreign partners, including the Americans,” in developing those deposits.

He said the invitation applied to Russian-occupied Ukraine as well, adding that American companies could also “make good money” by helping to develop aluminum production in Siberia.

“There is something to think about here,” Mr. Putin said, referring to aluminum, “as well as about joint work on rare earth metals and in other areas, for example, energy.”…”

Musk cut Russia off from Starlink around February 1. That was strange and I kinda figured that maybe there was Kompromat on Musk involving Epstein that Ukraine knew about. But the speculation seems to be that since SpaceX is going public in June, that Musk got the hint he'd better do something positive so he wouldn't have trouble cashing out.

And the June time frame is interesting because it dovetails the most recent deadline that the Trump Administration has lined up to finalize a peace deal.

Of course Putin doesn't allow Starlink in Russia proper, but its amazing how dependent inside Ukraine the Russians are. Recent activity on the front lines has declined as a result.

Saw an odd report that Ukraine has directed its troops not to engage with the Russians. That its better to let them advance and therefore the drones can take care of them. Thus preserving Ukrainians.

Which got me to thinking. A few months ago, I was critical of Ukraine for not striking Russian railroads more then they have. The railroads are low hanging fruit and pretty easy to strike And some folks have wondered why Ukraine is content to allow the Kerch Bridge to stand even thou its pretty obvious that Ukraine could take it out anytime they want. Both the bridge and the railroads bring Russians to the front line.

The only thing that explains it is that Ukraine is more then happy for Russia to be feeding the meat grinder front line.

Which brings up the next question: why does Russia keep feeding the meat grinder? Is it stupidity? Could be, but halting the meat grinder would give Ukraine a break and Putin may think Ukraine would gain more then Russia would from a break.
