It’s been said many times but the fundamental problem with Trump’s Russia-Ukraine strategy is that he doesn’t think Russia did anything wrong by invading. He thinks strong countries should be able to try to invade and take over weaker countries. Which puts so much of his commentary about Canada, Greenland, Panama, Venezuela, etc. into context.
