Trump had promised Putin he'd end NATO. When Trump failed, as was usual for him, and that wasn't going to happen, Putin decided he'd invade to keep Ukraine from joining NATO. If that were to have happened he'd have no chance to live out his dream of a USSR II. That would have been the restored Russian Empire. Surprisingly or not, it was a dream Trump shared with Putin. After all Russia cultivated Donald Trump as an asset for over 40 years.I would argue it was because of a weak and mentally challenged Biden that emboldened Putin to act after trump left office.
