For at least 50 years or more we have been known as the " Ugly American " when we visit countries abroad.

I toured Europe back in 1972. I stayed in a nice bed and breakfast in London hosted by a very friendly couple. I was getting ready to leave for France, and the host noticed I was carrying a very large cumbersome duffle bag of clothing. He said some other folks had left behind smaller duffle bags and suggested I take one with the Canadian flag patch.

I asked him why and he said that if you identified as a Canadian you will be treated much better than being thought to be an American. I thanked him and told him that I would return to exchange bags in about 6 weeks on my way back home. He said " Best of British, mate" which meant good luck.

Nobody represents the the ugly American better than our current president.

In years past I have noticed that we tend to choke under the pressure to beat the opponent vs playing well enough to finish in the top 10 and pick up another few hundred thousand dollars.

Yesterday, we must have missed a dozen putts under 8 feet. Was it the pressure ?

Keegan has done a poor job as team captain.

Scheffler is winless which mirrors Tiger Woods who had an embarrassingly horrible losing record in his Ryder Cup matches.

My hope is that Ben Griffin wins his match

Playing well as a team in golf means playing great golf.

Sure there are a few strategic things you can do but the primary factor is playing well.
 
Let’s get some individual victories today to make it respectful. This will give the crowd something to cheer for instead of simply focusing their frustrations on Rory and the Europeans.

Fuck that crowd. They don't deserve any victories. They represent the very worst of America.

Not surprised that your response to their classless display to to want to give them some wins.
 
What did you expect from a drunken NE crowd? No different from a Giants v Eagles football game except the players are closer.

I thought the crowd response yesterday was disgraceful. The crowd crossed many lines. No more Ryder Cups in NY/NJ/ Philly is the answer to this.

Pro golf has never been a team sport. H.S. Golf, sure… team sport. But even then, still very much an individual sport. It’s the nature of the game.

100% correct. every large american city is a dump. public transit, garbage, graffeti, homelessness, crime etc

And I will now add: All those Murikkkan golf fans in attendance are most definitely Trumplikkkans.
 
I worry rank and file MAGAs are accelerating the schedule even more than their overtly fascist leaders. At the 1936 Olympics, the German people were remarkably courteous to and encouraging of athletes from other countries, even black athletes from America. 2025 MAGAs seem determined to skip that step.
 
Changing the venue to a Southern state would not significantly change the behavior. Many attend because they can act this way. Heck, it is almost encouraged. The person getting the crowd excited yesterday did so by leading a “fuck Rory” chant.

It’s like saying the Waste Management tournament has so much beer drinking because it’s in Arizona. It’s not the location, it’s the identity that was sought.

I'm not defending it. I find it awful. But we knew it was going to happen. Many are trying to politicize it. I am just saying no way we see this level of awful behavior if this tournament were in Pinehurst for example.
Hovland has WD. Interesting instead of us get full point each team gets a half.

But the greatest threat is that it acts as a permission slip for his devoted followers to be just as, if not more, vulgar, antisocial, and depraved, and that has been one of the great meta narratives of the last 10+ years.
