Everyone in the UK from the Greens to the LibDems, from the PM, to the COnservative leader have condemned Trump's NATO remarks.

Farage has been silent.

Not Trump but the way they have a whole of government approach to brazen lying and boorish behavior insulting host countries is absurd.

Bessent: I think we almost reached a SNL moment a few years ago when it was “you’re not going to own anything, you’re going to eat insects.” I mean, it was just—the inmates were running the asylum at that point

Dasha Burns: You’re not into the bugs?

Bessent: Well, I can tell you—after a few days of Swiss German food, I may switch to bugs.

Someone might want to seat Secretary Bessent next to Secretary Rollins at the next cabinet meeting.

I thought Farage pretty clearly spoke out in opposition to Trump's aggression over Greenland? It's like a 96/4 issue in the UK, he has no incentive to sidle up to Trump on this point.

I doubt my parents annual income is close to $150K. Their net worth is north of $2.5 million.

They don’t need any part of the $6,000.

I hope more than just income is being used to determine eligibility.
Keep in mind the deduction is not determined by net income or AGI. It is determined by MAGI. If their net worth is 2.5 million or more and their annual income is less than 150k, then I imagine they have very little passive income, tax exempt income, dividend income, etc. If that is the case then I'm guessing that most of their of their net worth is due to non-income producing real estate.

Do they own a house in the Governor's Club free and clear ? :D

Not to derail again but this type of policy passage is an example of what I meant- and what I did a poor job of articulating yesterday- about it being a huge problem that our Congress is so geriatric. All those 65 and over working families with young children will be very appreciative, I'm sure!

Happy to start a different thread if anyone wants. Don't mean to derail this one.

I've got a LOT of problems in my life RIGHT NOW. It's a long list. Paying taxes is not on that list. The number of times in my life where I sent a check to the IRS just before before the April 15th deadline are few and far between. I pay my property taxes within days of receiving the bill. I realize that getting a refund and paying property taxes before the deadline are the same as loaning money to the government at a zero percent interest rate. I DON'T CARE! When I finish doing my taxes, I want a refund, not a tax bill. I admit this is financially STUPID on my part. But the value to my mental health of not having a big tax bill hanging over my head is worth it.

The above is a lesson I learned from my father. He ran a very small wholesale grocery store. His profit margin for the store was less than the combined (a) discounts for early payment and (b) lower costs by buying directly from the manufacturer. He explained to me that his business (started by his grandfather and uncle) had been around so long that he could buy directly from the manufacturer as long as he never missed a payment or made a late payment. One missed/late payment and he would have to buy from a distributor. And once he was paying distributor prices rather than manufacturer prices, then he would be out of business. He was so proud of the fact that when someone ran a credit report on his business the report noted, "Anticipates payment."

TLDR version: I miss money I have have to pay more than I miss money I have not yet received or am owed.

They own a house in Orange County on about 15 acres (with a 2nd dwelling on it) that could be free and clear in 5 minutes; but, they owe about 2 years and 3-4 months on a 3% or lower mortgage and SECU CD’s are paying roughly 4.5%.

He finally spoke out on the NATO comments an hour ago.

Farage says Trump's comment about role played by Nato allies in Afghanistan 'wrong'

Nigel Farage, the Reform UK leader, has now commented on Donald Trump’s latest comment about the Nato contribution in Afghanistan. In a post on social media, he said:

Donald Trump is wrong. For 20 years our armed forces fought bravely alongside America’s in Afghanistan.
Farage also included a clip of what he said at Davos on Wednesday about Trump being wrong to say in his speech that afternoon that Nato never contributed anything to the US.

it's so embarrassing.

the kinds of people who no one wants to be friends with are running the country.

people who are rude and abusive dickheads to service industry workers and/or are social media shitposters. just the worst of the worst.

I've been to Davos. Played a gig there once in December of 1986 or 87 (can't rightly recall now). Really cool spot.
Prolly not so cool now after all that hot air.

^ It's being constantly advertised on MSNOW. I'm like "is that the smartest use of your ad buy dollars?"

Then I remembered this whole thing is likely a tax write off for someone after it fails spectacularly so....

What the hell is up with Vance? Baby skeletons at ancient brothels? Also, brothels have always had PLENTY of use for boys, despite this horror story Vance is spinning out.

It's bullshit for so many reasons. AI tells me that you can't determine sex from infant bones from long ago for several technical reasons. There are no archaeological records for his claim, nor any documents indicating anything about it. Even determining whether a site was a brothel is fraught with uncertainty.

I know it will come as a shock, but it appears the VP is lying here.
