❄️ WINTER OLYMPICS ❄️ - Today's Events: Skiing, Luge, Skating, Hockey, Snowboarding, Curling, Biathlon

Yes. The country will never be perfect in the eyes of everyone. No matter who is president, there will be a decent portion of the country that does not like them or their policies.

Trump isn't the United States and he doesn't define the United States. He's just one person.

Athletes aren't there representing Trump, ICE, Republicans, Democrats or anything else. They are there representing the greatest country on the planet.
Athletes are there representing themselves.

The Olympics and World Championships should have qualifying standards. Make the standards, you are in. That might mean 10-15 Americans make the swimming heats……10-15 American and Jamaican sprinters……

If you’re good enough, you’re in.

Why is the Olympics a nationalistic competition?

Athletes are there representing themselves.
They are there representing their country. Opening ceremonies have athletes identified by country and walking together, the gold medal winner determines which national anthem is played, when athletes' names are shown, they are identified verbally and visually by country/flag and all medals are totalled by country.
Why is the Olympics a nationalistic competition?
Separate question. What matters now is that it is a nationalistic competition.

So, the only way to represent your country is to praise it? What about representing the part of the country that is horrified by the things Trump is doing?

Nope.

Every country has issues, but that shouldn't impact that fact that you are unquestionably proud to represent your country.
No other democratic first-world country has the issues going on that we do. And our issues are negatively affecting the entire world. To hand-wave away what is going on today in the USA today with, “every country has issues,” is disingenuous at best.

If an Iranian athlete spoke out against the Iranian government, you would applaud it.

We as Americans applaud what Timmie Smith and John Carlos did in 1968.

You know, you keep saying that you've read and understand what I've said... and specifically said I didn't need to say it again, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

I'm not saying that an athlete can't express political views and criticize the President, or policy or ICE or whatever. I'm saying you do that AND say, unequivocally, that you are proud to represent the United States.

No, you posted something new here that I am addressing, specifically, “all countries have issues.”

But I’m fine with ending this discussion.
