Oh thune was MIA by choice-which is funny because he leads the SenateAccording to Lawrence O'Donnell (well versed in Senate procedures from his time on Moynihan's staff), Schumer didn't outmaneuver anyone. Thune was MIA by choice. I think the play here is for Pam Bondi to block the release.
"From 1989 to 1995, O'Donnell was a legislative aide to Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan.[5] He served as senior adviser to Moynihan from 1989 to 1991, then as staff director of two senate committees that Moynihan was chairing: Environment and Public Works from 1992 to 1993, and Finance from 1993 to 1995.[10]"
I remember Daniel Patrick Moynihan as someone who would get hip- or shoulder-deep into legislation details.According to Lawrence O'Donnell (well versed in Senate procedures from his time on Moynihan's staff), Schumer didn't outmaneuver anyone. Is that you Jeff JacksonI don't give him a pass because he chooses to back Senate candidates in the Dem primary that end up losing winnable general elections.
Not only Jeff Jackson but now Graham Platner in Maine. Is that you Jeff Jackson
Hell no. He needs to retire.Looks kind of like he embarrassed the POTUS--maybe even broke the chokehold?
Agreed. I've never made it a secret that I'm not a Schumer fan. McConnell used to run rings around him in his prime, and imo Schumer simply isn't up to this moment in history. As Snoop said, he's been in DC so long that he's lost touch with what's happening beyond the beltway and he's so wedded to the status quo within the Democratic Party that he'll likely never accept the generational change that is past due within the party. Frankly, I hope that AOC primaries him in 2028 and beats him (I think she would, and by a comfortable margin, just as Mamdani beat Cuomo).Schumer is well-versed in the operations of the Senate and is a good Majority Leader.
He has been in DC for almost 45 years, he's become so much a part of the established government order that he has no idea how to be even a decent Minority Leader.
Yeah, he can outmaneuver folks on a procedural basis once in a while as head of the minority party, but he overall isn't really ready to attack the way a good Minority Leader should do.
So, no, he doesn't get a pass for doing one good small thing while largely failing at his current position.
