I have really tuned out since the election and especially since the inauguration. It's been too stressful to follow every single crazy thing that is happening.

But my questions for those who have been following more closely -

Don't most presidents want the employment rate to go up and jobs to be strong? If many thousands of government employees lose their jobs, is the job market strong enough to provide jobs for most of those to jump into? Shouldn't a mass swing toward unemployment have a pretty bad impact on the economy, with a lot less consumer power that hurts companies all over?

I know that the MAGAs first and foremost want to dunk on the libs, but isn't Trump's main claim that he is amazing with the economy? I guess I don't get it.

He is showing he is "darining the swamP" to hhis sycophants
And
He is appointing lots of folks in power that will help him "destroy the Deep State"

It is puzzling but some things to think about:

1. Trump is getting immediate positive feedback from it. I am not sure he is capable of thinking much deeper about it than that.

2. The firings provide cover for his purges of people who may threaten his power. If one isn’t paying attention they might think the two are the same. They definitely are not.

3. Trump has a personal beef with some agencies. I think again that Trump’s mental decline means that he is far more likely to act on grudges than reflect on the negative consequences of doing so.

He is hoping thousands of newly unemployed government workers will be absprbed by the job market. He is letting them go for a few overlapping reasons. He wants to cut government spending, including payroll expense. He wants to cut programs and positions he does not ideallogically agree with such as DEI and some foreign aid programs. He thinks that some government workers don't work very hard and the job functions of the laid off workers can be absorbed by employees that remain.

I’ll take a stab:

The ultimate goal of the Steve Bannon/Stephen Miller/project 2025 types is the total destruction of what they see as the “administrative state.” They want to eliminate all democratic/governmental roadblocks that would hinder their ability to institute a right-wing White Christian nationalist agenda.

They feel that any immediate job losses and economic downturn as a result of their policies would cause only short-term harm, providing long-term prosperity in the aftermath, once all the “undesirables” are rooted out.

Trump is both too dumb and not ideologically-driven to give a shit about that stuff. But he really loves the fame, adulation, money, and power that he’s been able to milk out of this. So he’ll go along with whatever they want, as long as they treat him like a god.

Good summary, and likely the closest explanation. I think they're totally delusional and will cause long-term serious harm with no long-term prosperity, but I do think your summary is what they believe and want.

Don’t overthink: A LOT of dead weight/fraud in government employees continuing to receive pay ESPECIALLY since COVID when 90% of workers have not returned for in person work. Advanced AI software Musk is employing helps with this task. Next month will be interesting
Still waiting for any evidence of fraud or criminal activity.

And the only evidence of “waste” tgat you idiots have offered is simply congressionaly-approved outlays for things that you don’t like. Which isn’t actually “waste”.

OMG Gov workers can’t identify 5 Things they did in a WEEK they accomplished or even worked on? The horror. So mistreated. I can name 35 things I worked on today from 8:00am - 7:30pm - my workday. It’s on my billing records.

First, these people already give status updates to their managers.

And let’s say you work on some type of advanced hardware and you spent all week trying to get one little piece working. Are you going to be able to split that into five bullets? If not, does that mean you are incompetent or lazy? Of course not.

If you can name 35 things today then it sounds like you have a pretty menial job.

This is complete bullshit

A lot of quality workers who should have no problem proving their worth…but, like I said, lots of dead weight which we can get rid of.

But what did you accomplish other than billing somebody?

Oh, and I routinely present my time and work to judges via affidavit or sworn testimony in support of awards of attorneys fees. So, boo hoo, pampered gov workers have to respond to an EMAIL.
