SOTU 2026

IMO, the best thing they could do is not go, or if they do go, to not make a sound. Project "we show up because we represent the people" but not play into the performative bullshit. When a child is having a temper tantrum or is being melodramatic, or a message board troll belabors a point just because that's their character pathology, the best thing to do is not to feed the appetite for attention.
I suggest going the Joe Wilson route, and just chant "You lie" in unison every time he lies.

The White House keeps saying this, speech after speech, event after event. And Trump gets bored with the economic message and begins to weave about the things that actually animate him instead.

They can say that all they want, but when has Trump ever been able to stay on message? His "focus on working families" SOTU will likely consist of wildly exaggerated claims and bragging about how he's delivered "the greatest economy in the history of the world" or some such, but is still being held back by all of the Radical Lib Dems (who are a minority in every branch of government right now) and RINOs and elitists who won't listen to him. And then he'll likely just ramble and wing it and go off on his angry rants about what a victim he is and all of the horrible, evil people who keep thwarting him from doing what he wants. I don't see him sticking to any script or speech draft for very long.

My prediction is Trump will stick to the teleprompter, resulting in a speech that lacks his usual energy, but one that will elicit Republicans comments such as “I think it was the best speech he’s ever given” and “Trump just became President today.” Trump will then return home for a social media binge that includes some of the craziest shit we’ve ever seen.

Like clockwork

I think not showing up or walking out plays into a narrative that Dems are unwilling to participate in governance, which is and will continue to be a Republican excuse for many failures despite holding all three branches of government. IMO the better option is for Dems to show up and read a book (maybe the Constitution? The Epstein files? Books on dealing with narcissists?). Show up, don't engage, make your point visually.

Among all the frustrating things about our current cultural and political climate, nothing makes me angrier than the fact that many people are finding a path to success by being cruel, vindictive little shithead grifters, and it's only getting worse.
Everything about the social media economy is vulgar. It’s taken look at me jackassery to new lows, elevated hatefulness to a virtue, turned semiliterate college dropouts into voices that matter and made talentless morons millions.

Would love to see Republicans take their responsibility for the end chain results of all the shit they do. Maybe when we take back over, we can repossess everything they've stolen and make them live on the Social Security and health benefits they voted for.

The guest list seems like they're leaning into hate and fear- definite "eating the dogs" vibe. How often does he go with transphobia tonight? Any other obvious punching bags?

Expect a lot of dark shit about immigrants as murderers and fraudsters.

Never heard of this guy. Apparently a 23 year old influencer.
How do Trump voters looks at themselves in the mirror and respect what they see.

He is the guy who did the “exposé” videos on alleged fraud by Somalis in Minnesota. There IS a fraud scandal that involves Somalis that had been subject to investigation and prosecution by the Biden Administration (continued by the Trump DOJ) and it has been a pretty big deal in Minnesota, enough so that Walz ended his reelection campaign.

But MAGA believes that this kid is the first to expose it and there was this huge coverup until he came along and started demanding entry into daycare centers to prove they had kids inside.

I’ll absolutely not be watching. It’ll be another one of his rallies full of lies and clownish bluster, only with more props in the stands.

The only good thing that could come of it is if he goes too far off script and does the pubs some damage, or shames the Supreme Court again, to their faces this time… but he likely won’t, and he’ll hit enough “affordability” and economy points to mitigate anything like that for the swing viewers.

Either way I’ll be checking the headlines afterward at most.

Any bets on length of a speech that Trump has said will be long? His average SOTU has been around 80 minutes (his longest to date was a hair under 100 minutes).
