That’s what I meant by the insta-poll being accurate and telling. It’s a BS poll.

You and I might look at previous insta-polls and compare. I won’t. You might. 95-99% of Americans won’t.

The “Independents” and “Moderates” will look at the Insta-polls and think, “Trump is OK.”

If gas ticks down and ground beef stabilizes, all is OK.

It all comes down to messaging. The one and only thing that the Pubs are really “good” at is screwing their low-IQ base financially while convincing them that they are the only party that has their best interests at stake. Yet the rich ALWAYS get richer while the poor get poorer when Pubs run the show.

On the flip side, you have the Dems who clearly do care about them and affect policy that specifically benefits them, but fail to let them know about it or understand how they’re actually benefitting. Reliably, when it comes to messaging, Dems never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

And sadly it might now be too late to reverse this vicious cycle of misinformation from the right. The machine is well-oiled.

Good Luck with that. His speech will be forgotten almost immediately by anyone who's not already in the cult, and given the short attention span of Americans these days will have no impact on the midterms, which in modern politics is virtually a lifetime away.

The talking point before Trump's SOTU is that his theme would be on trying to connect with "average" Americans and playing up how great his economy is, but it seems clear that was a misdirection. The real talking point was to try and frame Democrats as "crazy", anti-American, pro-illegal immigrant, etc. Trump kept referring to it and finally just set up Congressional Democrats with that stupid call to stand up and applaud if you're for "secure borders" and deporting criminal rapist illegals. And when Democrats failed to stand he was primed to go after them in the crudest and rudest way possible. That was the real goal of the night. Except that it won't work, because nobody outside his base gives a shit or will remember it by the start of next week, although I'm sure they'll try to run ads on it in the fall. I don't think this SOTU helped him or his party at all for the midterms, but in his mind no doubt it did, and I'm sure the toadies that surround him told him what a brilliantly successful speech it was.
 
The SOTU is already day-before-yesterday’s news. Five or six more things will happen today that will make it even less relevant. I know we’re all political junkies here so we pay attention to things like this, but the modern media environment is such that any given speech is meaningless. Politics is all about (1) what’s the crisis of the day, and (2) how do I feel when I pull out my debit card to pay for my groceries.
